LG GDR 8160B

Advantages: value for money, works well, good for backups
Disadvantages: Not the fastest on the block

...There are some very fast CD burners on the market although they're mainly being overtaken by DVD burners which aren't much more expensive these days. The LG GCE-8160B is a couple of years old now and used to sell at PC World for £69 but can be picked up cheaply on eBay these days. The box contains the bare drive which sports 16x CD-R writing, 10x CD-RW writing and 40x reading as well as all the usual IDE cables, screws and sound card leads. The supplied software is Roxio CD Creator version 5 which is the latest version although not the full 'Platinum' style. You can still burn almost any type of CD although some of the more esoteric features such as vinyl restoration, and Video-CD creation are missing. You can of course use 3rd party software or upgrade to the full version of CD Creator 5 Platinum. A bonus is a good pair of manuals... Read review

...This LG GDR 8163B is the latest DVD-RW drive from LG and as per usual is Brillaint to use. This is dual layer drive....8.5GB potential Burns CDr's at 40x about 2 min 32 secs @600mb on an 80min/ 700meg cdr. Also does CDRW DVD-r are a breese and the drive is very fast and quite. DVD+r little slower but works fine with all mainstream disks. DVD-Ram too but the disks a bit expensive so farfor me to try. DVD-RW disks are a breese again using Nero newest version and back-up data is straight forward. Have used Datawrite Grey 8x DVD-R and INFINITI 16x Green DVD-R no probs. But would suggest spending a little moer on good disks. 8XDVD-r time is about 7 mins for 4gb data and 7min 50 secs for DVD files. Overall good machine and well worth the current cost of £35-£32.... ...LG M227WD comes up with 22" Wide format monitor TV. The design is compact, sleek and slender and the performance quality is, in my opinion, above average. The vendor claims that the two built-in HDMIs, digital video and audio signals can be processed with no distortion. The better one is that the two AV home appliances can be connected at the same time. This monitor is also equipped with a Stereo 3W x 2 Multimedia Speaker. With all this features and functionalities, LG M227WD is offered at about £190. To sum up, LG M227WD offers great performance. It's a bit expensive but in my opinion it's still affordable....
