So here I am again writing about yet another mobile phone..! My little shiny Motorola K1 finally gave up the ghost this weekend, after 15 months of sending too many texts in a day and generally getting bashed about..! So just to tide me over between now and getting a contract phone, after much persuasion I decided to get a little cheap phone. Which came in the shape of an LG chocolate.. Very cute and sweet looking phone, and not too bad on features considering the small price..!
A few days seems like a life time when you have a dead phone, a partially dead phone and you are slightly excited to get something new..! I'm somewhat of a lover of mobile phones.. I think I've had more mobile phones in the past 8 years of my life than most of my friends..!
Well for £45 including £10 top-up, an ultra thin phone with; A 1.3 mega pixel camera Bluetooth Video camera Mp3 player Plus the most attractive feature of the whole phone.. A heat sensitive touch key pad..
This phone also has a red dot design award for product design in 2005. The looks of this phone were more popular than ever with consumers when this phone was first released. Even today a few years down the line this phone still looks as good as the day it hit the shops.
Having used one of these before it was quite obvious when it came to choosing a cheap little phone that I would pick this over any other little Nokia handset at £9.99, with no desirable features..!
The box
When the phone
arrived at 10am on Tuesday morning, it came in a grey box, which inside held the LG box with my phone in..!
The actual company box.. Is small and square with a picture of the phone on both of the larger sides showing off the design of the phone, the red arrows features obviously reflecting the red arrows on the actual phone's touch screenheat pad.
The top and bottom of the box had all the details about IMEI numbers are barcodes, everything that the manufacturers provide to get the phone going..!
Either side of the boxes we have the function list and accessories, and on the other side we have a pictorial display of the functions which the phone has.. The desirable features..!
What's in the box?
As well as masses of packaging and plastic that littered up my bed when it arrived..! I received; The phone..! The battery, Battery charger, User manual, Warranty card, Hands-free kit, Headphones, PC Sync CD, Data Cable.
The phone
The phone in general looks pretty nice, the styling of the phone is still a few years down the line quite innovative looking, as LG have always had reasonably new ideas, especially on newer models. Although there are a few little things that are a little annoying..!
The Menu
Here we have 9 options.. Profiles, Call registers, Tools, Organiser, Messages, Multimedia 'My Stuff,' Settings and your network provider browser options.
There are five different profiles, silent, vibrate, loud, general and headset. Each changes the response the phone has when a message arrives, or a phone call, or to even use the keypad. Vibrate is fairly obvious, the phones calls, messages and delivery reports are all made obvious by a vibration on the phone. Silent obviously has no noise at all.. Headset controls the volume in the earphones provided and the two other profiles provide a softer or louder notification of messages and phone calls.
The call register does what it says on the tin..! Keeps a record of how many phone calls the user has made, with times and if programmed the charges of each phone call and duration.
The tools icon has the Alarm clock, Calculator, Unit converter, World time and interactive (which again depends on the network provider.) I have found only one niggling problem with only one of these features.. The alarm clock is not too keen on waking you up when the phone is switched off.. Which can be slightly annoying..! The rest of these features are simple to use, the unit converter is quite handy if you happen to be in D.I.Y store trying to convert cm into inches..!
The organiser feature holds the contacts menu, calendar and a memo feature. This is one of three ways to get at a list of contacts so users will never be short of trying to find someone if they need to get in contact with them..! The calendar shows the date and future months and the memo feature can add reminders for specific events that the user needs notifying of..!
Now for the more essential items of use..
Messaging
There are a number of options in the message menu.. The 'New Message' option, where obviously the user can create a new message either a normal sms, or a multimedia message including a picture. There are options as always to how to type the message, in either predictive 'T9 text' or manual input of each letter 'abc.' The inbox feature simply displays the messages received, the Mailbox feature shows e-mails, the drafts option is where message drafts can be stored until the user wishes to send the message. The outbox holds all sent messages, with icons displaying

Menu and Open phone
if the messages have been sent and delivered. The info message function shows traffic reports and similar items depending on subscription and network provider. Template feature holds different start of messages ready for user to finish and send to their desired recipients, and finally the settings hold no end of little gadgets which ensure you know when the messages you sent were delivered, enable users to programme their phone to send and receive picture messages, along with the set-up of info messages.
Multimedia and My stuff
These two menu features are essentially the same, they both show photos, videos and songs. My stuff shows the photos, videos and music uploaded onto the phone yourself. Where multimedia shows all the features of camera, video camera, and Mp3 player which plays WMA files.. Which the included headphones can be used to listen to at a reasonable quality, but compared to some headphones is of a much better quality.. From the photos and images taken on the phone and already preloaded can be used as the wallpaper. Camera a 1.3 mega pixel camera, with video capability and multiple options of flash, multi-shot, and different colour options for the photos taken. Video Camera is a plain simple video camera, there is no special features as it is only a basic camera.
Settings
Here the user can change the date and time quite easily by using the number keys on the keypad of the phone. Change the wallpaper, choosing from the default pictures or from photos taken on the phone, here we can also change the menu colour to either black or silver. There are a few items of colour which can be changed, the brightness and the backlight to make the battery last longer there is also a power saving feature. The connectivity of blue tooth is simple to use, by setting the power on you can change your phones name and also pair devices with the phone, such as blue tooth headsets, which does work quite effectively providing your phone isn't too far away from the headset. There is also a feature to check the memory status for internal memory and multimedia memory..!
My opinion
For me this is a cheap and easy phone to use.. Admittedly I did have a few problems when I first received the phone as I had no idea how to turn the phone on considering the on switch is on the outside..! Along with the ending phone call button.. Which I couldn't find either..!
The heat sensitive touch screen is quite sensitive.. It is very easy to hit a button that you didn't want to and end up calling the last person in your call register which could become expensive. Other wise it is quite an innovative and fun piece of technology.
Compared to my old phone there is no edit feature on the phone, but for much less cost I shouldn't really have expected this. The quality of the screen is good considering it is only a 262k screen, the pictures look on a crisp quality. The sound of the phones speakers for a cheap phone is pretty good and with the headphones is even better. The amount of videos, photos and songs that are able to be stored on the phone is a minimal amount, which for some is not enough, especially as this phone does not have expandable memory it may not be to everyone's taste.
The message system I find is particularly good as the delivery reports are stored on top of the message sent so I know when the message has been sent and delivered, without having to remember a time when I replied to someone's message..! Considering I do text a lot this is a big bonus feature for me..!
The speak for phone calls in quite quiet, or that my have been because I was walking down the side of a busy road..! However putting down the phone is as easy as sliding the phone down, as it is with answering the phone just side it up..!
As for the camera quality, it is decent enough for the quality of the camera included.. There is a flash, and different options for night time photos, which is good for the night time shots..! I have changed the settings on my phone to automatically save the pictures so no need to worry about the photos which is a really big plus..!
The battery is not too bad, but not brilliant either.. Admittedly I am quite a heavy user for text messages but I have found the battery to last me a few days which compared to my old phone is brilliant..!
Price and availability
This phone is fairly difficult to find in high street stores of even online for that matter.. The following stock this phone.. The Link.. £44.99 Carphone Warehouse.. (depending on network.. Up to £50 Phones for you.. £39.99 plus £10 top-up Ebay.. Prices vary..! If you can find it in various random shops online you may get a good bargain..!

A great review that is full of information and action packed with facts. The heat sensitive screen sounds 'interesting'. Either way, this rings my bell so its an E from me. Martin. x
