It is locked to T-mobile, but that is the PAYG service she uses anyway - so no matter. I trawled the internet to see if it is one of those phones that can be unlocked easily, but as yet it is not.
The phone itself is very light and quite small, but surprisingly easy to use. The menu structure is simple to follow and has a pleasing amount of functionality for such a budget device. It has a calendar/alarm function, messaging, contacts, call history and tools menus. The big central quick navigation key gives you easy access to the menu structure. You have the option of changing this from the default menu settings to whatever suits your needs. She finds it most useful for setting reminders in the Calendar and chooses to attach it to a lanyard around her neck for easy access. Indeed it is so lightweight, she sometimes forgets that it is there.
The reception quality is very good and voice calls are clear and distinct. I was also impressed to note that it has a speakerphone capability as well.
The battery life of this phone is most impressive, lasting on average around 7 days, although neither my wife nor myself are heavy users. One downside is that the battery meter is not very linear and once it has gone down to 2 bars (after about 6 days), it will need charging quite soon. Another slight niggle is the flimsy dust cover for the charging port, which you have to carefully tease out with your fingernail and is attached to the main body of the phone by the most fragile strand of plastic. But for under a tenner, I find it hard to criticise this super little phone. In fact I was so impressed with this little gem that I bought one for myself for leisure use.
In summary, if you are looking for a small no-frills mobile just for phoning and texting, then look no further.
