The LG Viewty - Looks like an iphone but think again!
Unlike its prettier counterpart the Viewty is primarily a multi-functional phone with decent video/ camera and high speed internet (HSDPA) capabilities. One up for the underdog then. Having owned one for a while now here is an honest rundown - its not all good I'm afraid.
The pro's:
Desirable design - Well made, quality use of materials. Nice touch screen, the qwerty keyboard arrangement is great for texting. The camera is good (5mp) and the video has a slo-mo feature that is unique as far as I'm aware. You can also upload straight to You-tube although like many I suspect… never did! The Viewty comes with 2Gb with capacity for 4 max. Internet speed is great and surfing is made more enjoyable by the large screen display. The touch screen feels good providing a reassuring vibrating key response. The LG interface is surprisingly intuitive an simple to navigate (having never used one before). I would definitely buy an LG again based on this alone.
Now for the con's:
Battery life as with most phones of this ilk is poor to say the least. The large touch screen is easily scratched and you will find yourself constantly cleaning off smudges, frankly the protective plastic film that supplied with the phone is not good enough. The screen fails to cope with glare which makes conducting simple tasks like 'making a call' difficult in direct sunshine. The PC interface for transferring music and data files is slow and awkward, this phone could really do with wi-fi! The mp3 player isn't great either - wading through files is unresponsive and annoying plus the sound is a bit tinny. Only quibble with the camera is its poor quality in low light…. No lens cap or cover and position of zoom is madness!
There is no denying this phone is a quality piece of technology neatly packaged, its simple to use which can be a contradiction I know. Only trouble is those little niggles start to become infuriating over time. This is a great phone that can be forgiven its faults assuming your relationship is a year long affair only, however more seasoned techo-lovers out there will be better off with a Nokia N95 or a smart phone.
Looks like we will have to wait abit longer for sleek iphone style design that combines the functionality of an SPV!
