I got this phone yesterday morning and I decided to wait a bit before writing a review. I've been attached to this phone for the past 36 hours and I've sussed most things out.
I got this phone after reading reviews on here and other mobile sites. The choice was between an LG Cookie and this phone, however, I wanted a phone that had similar features to my old Samsung G600 and I decided to go for this one! I bought it from Tesco on the Vodafone network as it was on offer for £97.86 (once you'd spent £30 in store). I got home and opened the box and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. All I got was the manual, Vodafone booklet, phone, battery, charger & USB cable. I thought they could have provided headphones and a stylus (it's a good thing I can manage fine without the stylus however I would like some headphones!!) I shortly discovered that the features on the phone made up for this!
I wasn't sure
about getting a touchscreen phone as I was worried that they wouldn't last very long and/or they'd break easily but after I read the reviews I was comforted. I switched the phone on and I was amazed! The touchpad calibration was useful to make sure I was tapping in the right places!! The homescreen came up and I was really pleased with the design. The screensize is perfect and makes it easier to access the functions. You don't have to tap furiously but I did find the sliding bit difficult, especially on menus. I've now got to grips with this and I haven't deleted anything I shouldn't have! I like how the phone vibrates to let you know it's registered that you've pressed a button, great feature there!
Moving on, I was a little baffled on why the phone only has three themes? LG could have made a theme creator app, or installed more themes but as you can download themes I'm not too worried. The games are fine, too but as I'm not one for playing the games I don't really mind that they are demos. However, I love the Google Maps app! Very useful indeed! Another thing that really impressed me was the Internet access. This could just apply to Vodafone, but I love being able to go on the Internet for free so if i'm ever ill, on holiday or can't get to the PC, I can just use the phone! The music player is great as well. It's like Media player with the visualisations and the iPod with the different categories (Artists, Albums, Recently Played etc.) and I find it a lot easier (and more interesting) to get to my favourite tunes.
The camera, wow! I'm sure there are better cameras out there but this is a big improvement on the "5 megapixel" camera the Samsung G600 had. I'm really pleased with the quality of the images. I think having a proper lens + flash in the camera is better than a small camera with an LED flash. I have to admit, it isn't the best thing to take a picture when you're in the sun but it's really clear and colourful otherwise. Impressed with the editing features, too.
Now, texting and calling. Whoever says you can't type quickly on here is joking. Yes, it is hard to begin with but I find it easier to type on here than with a normal keypad. I find it a lot quicker. Maybe that's just me? It took me a while to discover which button was backspace but I got there in the end and I've got round any problems with texting!
The battery life isn't brilliant, but I managed to take loads of pictures and listen to hours of music on Youtube & on the phone before the phone had one bar left. It's good, but nothing special. Many people dislike the phone and it's locking feature. To be honest, I like it. At least people won't get into my phone easily if I leave it lying around and they don't discover the lock/unlock button! Also, I won't have to worry about my phone calling random people off my contact list whilst in my pocket.
As you might have guessed, I've already dropped the phone. It still works; the screen hasn't gone dark, the phone didn't freeze, crack or get scratched. I left the film on the lens and the screen to protect it until I buy a case. I recommend you do this.
Right, complaints. I don't like how the charger/headphone slot is shared. Just like the Samsung phones, I find it annoying. It's nothing major, but I'd prefer them to be separate like with the Nokia phones. Also, the camera has no cover. I suggest you buy one.
All in all I think this is a stylish phone. I'm not bothered by the size or the weight of it, I prefer it being a bit more chunky than usual! I'll update in a few weeks/months when I've had it longer to see if my phone really is the "perfect" one.
Advantages: Lots of media to choose from and easy to navigate around Disadvantages: Can sometimes be slow and therefore freze on continous use on same button
