The title may strike you as somewhat odd. An LCD monitor which is great for games? That's right!

It used to be said that LCD monitors were poor for applications that had objects moving around rather quickly on the screen (action games mainly). The monitor could not keep up with movement of the game and produced a "ghosting" effect. When the previous position of the game remained on the screen for a split second after the next frame had been displayed.

This problem is noticable most on displays with a refresh rate of 25ms or greater. Some users may detect ghosting on 20ms monitors.

However since this flat panel display has a refresh rate of 16ms the ghosting is practically undetectable (although a very small percentage of people still may see it).

The brightness of the monitor is also very good and can be used in bright locations.

This monitor supports both Digital (DVI) input (which is a white and rectangular port) and VGA input (which all graphics cards have and it's a blue colour) and works best with digital input giving greater image clarity. The analogue input (VGA) is also excellent.

There is also a USB hub with 2 USB 1.1 connections on the right hand side. This is however not very strong as it only gives the devices a max of 100mA and will not be able to power two devices concurrently by itself. It may work with two devices which have their own power supply.

Now we come to the disadvantages and thankfully they are few.

Firstly the panel can only be moved up and down and cannot be moved from side to side. For that you have to move the whole monitor. Including the base! This monitor also does not have the pivot function where the monitor is rotatable. Although the screen looks square anyway...You cannot change its height but this did not bother me as I changed my position instead.

This "disadvantage" is down to personal taste. Black is all the rage these days and LG do not provide this monitor with a black surround. Although the silver is quite nice with plastic at the sides measuring around 1cm in width there is not much of it!

LCD panels have a native resolution. A resolution which it displays best. Deviation from this resolution can distort pictures. This panel's native resolution is 1280*1024. This is excellent for the internet and other applications as there is plenty of room to work. In games however you will need to have a good graphics card to be able to output games at this resolution.

Also LCD panels are notorious for having poor viewing angles. Look at the panel from an incorrect angle and the colours go all wild. This panel does not suffer much from this unless you go to the right extremes of the monitor when it will have a urine yellow tint to the screen!

I wholeheartedly recommend this monitor for any purpose!Technical Specs:
  1. Contrast Ratio: 450:1
  2. Response Time: 16 ms
  3. Resolution: 1280 x 1024
  4. Brightness: 250 cd/m2
  5. Viewing Angle: H:160, V:140
  6. Backlight: 4 CCFL Lamps
  7. Pixel Pitch: 0.264 x 0.264 mm
