Advantages: No built it speakers, good price Disadvantages: Viewing angles not great
As I seem to sit at a computer screen all day I thought it wise to invest in a nice flat screen monitor - mostly this was to help stop my eyes deteriorating which, I understand, is mostly caused by the flickering of standard CRT monitors. My new TFT had to meet the following criteria:
- 15" or more visible screen
- Display resolution of 1024 x 768 or more (preferably 1280 x 1024)
- Have a decent display for playing ... ...Fit in the corner against the wall on my desk
- Cost less than £200
I had a look through the ol' Argos catalogue and this one caught my eye. It was small enough to fit on my desk nicely, had a 17" visible screen and a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 and cost £30 less than my planned budget - brilliant I thought. 20 minutes drive and £170 later the screen was mine.
I also like the fact that it doesn't have ... more

- 15" or more visible screen - Display resolution of 1024 x 768 or more (preferably 1280 x 1024) - Have a decent display for playing PC games which are pretty fast paced - Fit in the corner against the wall on my desk - Cost less than £200
I had a look through the ol' Argos catalogue and this one caught my eye. It was small enough to fit on my desk nicely, had a 17" visible screen and a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 and cost £30 less than my planned budget - brilliant I thought. 20 minutes drive and £170 later the screen was mine.
I also like the fact that it doesn't have built in speakers. Other monitors I have seen have very poor speakers which I do not want or need due to having a 5.1 surround sound system.
The screen was easy to set up (just plug it in and switch on) and was proudly tucked up in the corner displaying pictures within 15 minutes on getting home (it took me 10 minutes to find some scissors to fight through the box sellotape!)
As I say, the screen was pretty much perfect out the box for my uses, but if you need to change any settings, the menus are easy to navigate using the buttons on the front. If you get into any problems these can be easily reset to factory defaults if needed. I ended up increasing the brightness slightly and, without ever using the menu's before, managed to quickly find what I wanted and altered the setting to suit my needs.
Since then, it has been burning away for hours and hours and shows no sign of deterioration. I am able to watch whole DVD's from a good 7ft away and it is still plenty clear enough even from that far. It is also able to let me sit for hours right in front of it as I play computer games without too much trouble for my eyes (of course sitting in front of a screen for a long time is not good for them!). Normal computer work, such as typing, browsing the internet etc, are also easily accomplished and I never need to strain to see any of the words.
One minor problem is that if you need to view the screen at an angle the definition quickly decreases but this is very common with flat screens so isn't something I'm particularly bothered about. Also, it is extremely uncommon for me to not look at it from directly ahead, so again this isn't really a problem.
In summary, I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone needing to replace their current screen. The colour is excellent and images nice and sharp, and best of all the price is right!
Advantages: Good size, reliable, easy to fix, quick Disadvantages: None
...monitor worked perfectly. Since then, I've had no problems at all, and its worked better than ever, and has been doing for around 7 months now. I would certainly reccomend this as it is very reliable, loads up straight away, and uses little power. Thanks LG for another great product!! ...

Advantages: Massive space saver and modern looking design Disadvantages: As with all TFT's, an additional expense is required for wall bracket
Reason for Purchase
Like many people I wanted to gain some more work space from my desk which was largely overcrowded by my 17CRT monitor. With this beauty I managed to gain back a whole foot of desk space!
Looks
The monitor is stylish in its charcoal and grey/silver colours which added that final touch to my PC with a futuristic black and silver case. Price
At just under £200, considering it is one of the cheapest 17" available, it is certainly ... ...steady (ideal for my home office with its bouncy floor boards). And it is not cheap and flimsey like some.
Wall Mounting
There are threaded screw holes in the back for attachment of a wall bracket - BUT BE WARNED - some sellers state that this can be hung like a picture, which to me suggests two screws in the wall and hooking on, but actually you need a bracket which costs in the region of £50.
Set up
To set up there is an installation disk to ...

Advantages: Attractive design and a huge space saver Disadvantages: Initially stiff to adjust
I recently made the transition from the world of the old clunky CRT monitor to that of the flat TFT's. I was wary at first as they are still relatively expensive, I was however very happy with my purchase.
The monitor comes in a fairly attractive box and is packaged very securely. The base is quite small and really does allow you to free up a lot of much needed desk space. The only stipulation is that the back of the monitor be at least 10cm away ... ...cant put it right up against your wall you still save a large amount of room. My previous monitor was a 15 inch CRT which took up over twice the space of this 17 inch TFT.
The monitor comes with a power cable and monitor cable (which is not permantly joined to the monitor). Connecting them is easy enough and connect vertically into the back of the monitor. Onto the performance. Overall I would give it full stars, colours are crisp and vibrant with ...

Advantages: small, tidy and takes up hardly any room Disadvantages: stiff to open the stand at first, no inbuilt speakers
After my old chunky monitor sopped producing the colour red I asked my dad to get me a new flat screen LCD monitor, I ended up with this.
He brought it of ebuyer.com for £158.37 with an onsite warranty of 3 years.
The design of the monitor is a thin grey-beige frame with a grey base and back. It is 17" viewing screen (that's diagonal), 15" high including the base, about 3" thick and 15" wide.
It is a clear display and doesn't get warm like some ... ...at least 10cm from the wall to allow for ventilation. One down side is that it doesn't have any speakers, but if you have speakers already its not much of a problem, plus having no speakers means it is narrower than ones that do.
The base was a little stiff to pull out I was worried I would break it, but following the instructions and putting it on a chair it was fine. The monitor comes with a detachable power lead so if you have a desk that plugs ...
