The LG Optimus One is well...

Being a budget phone, you would expect much from this device. But, on the contrary, it does its job, and it does it well.
Specification:

  • 600 Mhz ARM11 Processor with ARMv6 architecture
  • 512 mb of RAM memory
  • internal memory of 170 mb
  • Adreno 200 GPU
  • 3.2 inch TFT touchscreen with 256K colors
  • 1500 mAh battery
  • Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate
  • Proximity sensor for auto turn-off
  • HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
  • 3.15 MP camera, 2048x1536 pixels, autofocus, Video:VGA@18fps
  • Wi-Fi
  • Android OS v2.2 (Froyo), upgradable to v2.3
  • Standby time: up to 700 h (2G) / up to 550 h (3G)
  • Talk time: up to 8 h (2G) / up to 7 h 30 min (3G)
  • Bluetooth
  • A-GPS support

Surely you can't expect it to have all the characteristics of a premium mobile phone but, overall it doesn't lack any of the key features. The camera could be better; also note that it doesn't have a front-facing one. Furthermore, the GPS is nice to have and it works properly. The internal memory isn't that much, but you can send to the microSD card a lot of apps (even more if you are rooted). When it comes to RAM memory, the 512 mb are enough in order to perform more than decent. The GPU, adreno 200, was the standard for the 2010 phones, so it's just a step or two behind today's premium phones. The CPU's frequency of max 600 mhz can be improved if necessary (overclocking, choosing other governors) reaching better performance. Wi-Fi works well on this handheld.

Making calls is pretty straight-forward, the Android OS being intuitive and easy to use. The talk time is pretty good..

The responsiveness is good, being quite snappy. The screen is not Gorilla Glass, so it is wise to consider a screen protector. The reception is decent, but not extraordinary. The battery (1500 mAh) is more that sufficient, but keep in mind that Android powered devices tend to drain the battery faster (due to activities running in the background).

Gingerbread is now available for it, so that's a plus. Bottom line, it is worth considering if you don't have a bigger budget.
