The MegaRAID SAS 8344ELP, with four internal and four external 3Gb/s Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) ports, is the ideal RAID solution for internal and external storage subsystems requiring the flexibility to use either SAS or 3Gb/s SATA drives, or a combination of both. Based on LSI Logic first-to-market SAS IC technology, the MegaRAID SAS 8344ELP provides a robust RAID solution complete with a high-performance Intel I/O processor, PCI Express host interface, 128MB DDRI SDRAM, and intelligent battery backup (iBBU) support. Additional fault tolerant RAID features include support for all key RAID levels, Online Capacity Expansion (OCE), RAID Level Migration (RLM) and Patrol Read for finding and resolving bad media blocks on disk drives.

Advantages: Large Capacity, blazing fast. Disadvantages: Poor quality, breaks at the blink of an eye, fragile, sloppy manufacture
...We transitioned to Spectra Logic drives in March of 2006. It is January of 2007, and we have had to have both units replaced 3 times, the longest one lasted was 6 months, the shortest one lasted was 6 hours. They will overnite you a new unit, but that does not solve the quality issue. 6 of sh*t is sh*t. Woe unto you if your tape drive "white screen" dies.. You have to disassemble the top of the unit, attach a 3/16 socket to a motor plate, and manually remove all of the tape chambers. This process is long and tiresome. My advice to you is to spend a little more $$ and buy a quality item. Trust me, you will be disappointed....

Advantages: Powerful - impressive - cutting edge Disadvantages: Like a big filing cabinet on wheels
...such as archived mailboxes and the like. It has a capacity for 12 300GB SAS drives giving 3TB of storage if required. The high vis neon green drive lights were constantly flashing on and off on the one I built because the RAID card is constantly performing data scrubbing which monitors and repairs any errors it finds in the stripes on the array. Apparently all the RAID cards IBM supply do it but only the 8i card has the ability to flash the disk lights whilst it does it which I find kind of bizarre.
Above the drive bays is the CPU tray which, once you have removed all the relevant clips and air channels, can be slid out of the front and up to four processors can be plugged in. Reseat this board and move into the area behind where the CPUs sit to the memory area. The memory is plugged into what are effectively daughterboards each of which will hold 4...

I have just returned from a short skiing holiday to Norway where our party of 8 (4 Adults and 4 Children) stayed in this wonderful hotel. Our accommodation was half board. The rooms were comfortable, with private bath or shower, WC, mini-bar, cable TV... more
This weekend just gone me and the missus thought we'd go off on a short break in London. We chose the SAS Portman Hotel since its location was fab and the price fell within our budget of £300 for 2 nights. We had heard only good things about this one so... more
This review of the hotel will be a bit limited as I only stayed there for one night in April 2007. I arrived late in the evening and left early in the morning so this is merely my impression of the room and check in/check out.
