Voluminous X4 is L'Oréal's first mascara to give 4 times thicker lashes and claims that it will result in no heaviness and no clumping. The ‘formula’ is enriched with Ceramide-R and Panthenol to protect and condition. It also claims to leave lashes supple and soft to the touch and says that the extra volume brush should deposit just the right amount of mascara for an even application that resists clumping and flaking.
This product has been ophthalmologist tested for safety and is safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers as it contains a non-irritating and fragrance-free formula.
So… it all that jargon actually true? Well, quit a lot of it actually is, there are few downfalls, but you can’t necessarily class those as L’Oreal’s fault. Let me explain…
The brush is nice and thick and perfect for dividing lashes during application, although sometimes prone to collecting globs of mascara on the end and even on the brush on occasion. When this happens I tend to just wipe the excess off gently on the rim of the mascara tube so that it gets re-used next time I use take the mascara wand out of the bottle. Unless you don’t wipe off the excess of tend to smother your eyelashes in mascara, I have never really found clumping to be a problem with this product. Too much, as ever, with a lot of mascaras, can have detrimental effects,
I tend to apply between 2 and 3 coats, letting each one dry slightly before applying the next. I am very lucky and find my eyelashes curl naturally upwards when I apply mascara. I will be externally grateful for this fact as it means I never have to mess about with one of those eyelash curler contraptions.
However, my method of applying mascara (albeit rightly or wrongly) is to coat my lashes from root to tip, making sure that I don’t forget the outer lashes and they help to extend and open the appearance of your eyes. I do this twice (if I fell it’s necessary) and then put a slight coat on the inside of my lashes from root to tip to help them look thicker.
The packet recommends that you coat lashes from root to tip in order to separate each lash and avoid clumping.
I have to say that the claim of leaving lashes soft and supple after application is true. Even after three coats (even though they’re not very thick ones) my eyelashes are still soft and fluttery to the touch and not at all hard, brittle or clumpy. The result is beautifully enhanced lashes that look longer and more defined (or at least, that’s the result I get).
As for whether this product is sensitive enough for those with contact lenses, etc, I cannot verify this claim personally, but have a friend who wears contacts on occasion (glasses often) and she used it when we were getting ready for a night out the other week and never had any problems, although of course, everyone is different.
Now, the packaging is pretty simple. This product comes in an 8ml tube. The tube itself (12cm long and 1½cm in diameter) is a shimmery grey sort of colour with a gold effect screw lid (4cm long) with the product name on the side in gold. It comes encased by clear plastic on a 5½cm by 18cm sheet of cardboard, which tells you a bit about the product.
I bought mine from Boots at £6.99, but considering it lasts about 3 months at a time, I ‘d say this made it quite good value compared to some other mascaras.
As for the shades it’s available in, I have done some research into this but have found it a bit tricky to find somewhere that can tell me a complete listing – even the L’Oreal website doesn’t provide this information: www.lorealparis.com
I always use either Black/Brown (a nice dark brown) or Brown (a mid brown colour). I know that this is also definitely available in Black and I have been told that there is also a Waterproof version available in Black also. During my research discoveries, I am lead to believe that there are other colour options including; a Soft Black (charcoal colour) and even Silver, although I am informed that there is a Blue available by a friend who could only describe this as a ‘dark blue’. (NB: I have marked NO to waterproof in the questions at the end as the version of this product that I tied wasn't).
I find this mascara to be perfect for any look you may try to create with makeup, whether that be casual, daytime or evening. I couldn’t live without mascara and if I only ever do one thing before leaving the house – you guessed it, I apply this!
I don’t tend to use eye makeup removing products personally, I only ever use cleansing wipes for this purpose, but I find that this product is easily removed and my lashes are left soft and in good condition.
Advantages: Lightweight, adds thickness and length. Disadvantages: Takes a little extra time to remove.
The eyes are our most expressive facial feature and in a beauty sense can be seen as one of a girls greatest assets. They are the windows to our soul and express moods and emotions from deep within. Mascara can be used to enhance the look of our eyes and to make them more expressive.
I've been using L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara for more than three years now, so would like to share with you the reasons why I've been so brand loyal.
Until recently, ... ...recent purchase, I noticed the name is now Voluminous 4x so I can only assume that L’Oreal have found a way to not just triple the volume of your lashes, but to quadruple them!
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara adds volume to your lashes due to the ‘combined action of its brush, formula and texture’.
It claims to have a conditioning formula, which contains Ceramide R – ‘a patented molecule that acts to coat and strengthen ...

Advantages: can create different looks, very volumising Disadvantages: the occasional clump
4 times the volume I thought? That seems a pretty tall order to me! If it does work-surely it would all clump together into one big eyelash?? Well, I will reveal all later in my opinion!
The actual casing is grey with gold writing and a gold lid. It is a fairly standard size mascara and is 8ml. The mascara brush is quite a large brush-I find the thin ones difficult to use and the wrong shape for my eyes. This mascara is also suitable for sensitive ... ...and black waterproof.
This mascara contains Cerimide R to strengthen lashes and claims to have a special “conditioning formula”. It doesn’t say on the tube what exactly makes the mascara conditioning, so I found it hard to believe the marketing talk of “special formula” but I discovered that it’s the ingredient Panthenol that conditions the lashes. The mascara is designed to make your lashes look visibly thicker and longer so isn’t it pretty much ...

Advantages: defined lashes Disadvantages: can be clumpy - so need to finish off with a lash comb
...reviewing the Waterproof version of L'Oreal Voluminous mascara in Black. It comes in a blue tube (the non-waterprooof is a grey tube).
Some macaras do lengthening, others do curling, but this one does Volume. I guess it depends what you want. I already have long lashes, and if I curl them I look like an idiot. So volume is the only option for me. This one does what it says on the tin.
This was one of the first mascaras I bought 8 years ago. I have ... ...back to this one!
L'Oreal first started advertising this one years and years ago - that's probably why I bought it (well I was 16 8 years ago so pretty affected bt advertising!). They don't really market it any more - but I really think they should.
You get a real 'big lash' look which I have never got with another brand. After you use this one, other brands just won't do the trick. This is because you get used to the 'volume' it gives you and ...

Advantages: creates lovely long flattering eyelashes adds nice volume without clumping Disadvantages: one problem ive found is that it does tend to dry out quite quickly compared to other brands
This mascara has to be one of my all time favorites! I think that loreal has to be one of my most favourite and trusted brands.
What I like about it is that it has a very thick bristle brush, that seems to coat every single lash individually, and speaking upon behalf of my friend this is what she needs. I will explain.
My friend has a very destructive habit, which i dont know if any of you know about. She pulls her eyelashes out.
She has tried ... ...as even if she has only about 20 lashes left this mascara hunts out every individual lash, and coats it to lengthen each one, and plumps out every lash to make it look like she has alot more than what shes got.
This of course hides a multitude of sins, and prevents other people noticing so much, the only thing i would say though, is it does tend to dry out quite quick, therefore making it rather a clumpy mixture, but when new it works brilliantly!

Quick review of L'Oreal Voluminous
It took me years and alot of money to find the right mascara as i have quite short eye lashes but i have finally found the right one with L'Oreal Voluminous. Now my lashes and thick, long and full. If not applyed properly it can go clumpy but i put on one thin coat, let it dry then put on another for extra volume. If you have short lashes this is perfect for that extra volume, and if you already have long lashes they will look amazing after applying this mascara. It dries very quickly and the price is well worth it. Definately recommend it to any one. ...

Advantages: None really, just does the basic job Disadvantages: Overpriced, dries up easily, and a small bottle
While this is a reasonably average kind of mascara, which performs its function, the advertising claims that it will do far more than this, and this is simply not the case. The claim that you can dispense with eyelash curlers as a result of using this mascara is not accurate, and as far as thickening lashes goes it is poor in comparison to L'Oreal's Voluminous mascara. The bottle is small and I found that it dried up quickly, making it extremely poor value for money. It costs around seven pounds for a bottle, which will last most people about five weeks. I think that your money would be better spent on the voluminous mascara which is similarly priced, if not cheaper, or on another comparable brand. ...
I, like others have been on a life long search for the perfect mascara. Before I tried this I used L'OrealVoluminous with (eyelash curlers) but they changed their "recipe" and so I looked for another mascara.
I am fair skinned have pale eyelashes and they are not curly or thick or particularly long either so naturally I would want a thickening, lengthening, volumising, breakfast making mascara and generally this mascara performed ok.
The brush is a bit weird as it is thinner in the middle and the claim is that this helps towards making the false lash effect but I found it made it more difficult to apply.
This mascara does give the false lash effect but with one problem, it flakes during the day. I have noticed it and other people have as well. At the end of the I have black marks under my eyes which if I try to wipe away they ...

*WHY DID I BUY IT?*
I bought this because I was in desperate need of a new mascara, having run out on the day of my holiday. On the boat on the way there was a little shop of duty free perfumes, which also had a limited makeup selection. I only recognised L'Oreal from the brands on offer, and generally they are a company that I trust for high quality products. From the few mascaras they had I picked up the cheapest one, lash architect. As soon as I got back from holiday I ran out and bought a new mascara because I just couldn't put up with this one anymore...
