INTRODUCTION
Lately my skin seems to have been suffering. I don't know whether it is my hormones, makeup or pretty poor diet (or a combination of all three!) but I have started to get some pretty nasty spots here and there that concealer just won't cover, and red patches that take an awful lot of foundation to hide. I was pretty desperate for a quick fix that would get rid of some awful spots that had been plaguing me for a while,
Right now there a few products cropping up on the market designed to reduce spots in just a few hours, done by brands such as Clean and clear, clearasil and oxy. I am always a little skeptical about claims like this and doubt that they would work that well, and if they do, what exactly are they doing to my skin? I did however want results fast. I decided on a compromise with Garnier synergie pure skin naturals SOS anti blemish pen.
Garnier is a brand I trust for my skincare often as I feel that its products work well without making any crazy promises and while they may not work any miracles I feel confident that I am getting results.
The SOS blemish pen promises to reduce blemishes quickly (it DOES NOT promise that they will be gone in 4 hourse) so I decided to give it a try one day when my skin looked particularly bad.
WHERE CAN YOU BUY IT FROM?
I first saw this in superdrug but you can get it anywhere that they sell Garnier products which is quite a lot of places! Definately boots and superdrug as well as the big supermarkets all stock this stuff.
PACKAGING
The packaging is distinctive as it is packaged in the distinctive Garnier turquoise plastic. The pen itself is a small 10ml squeezy bottle with a white plastic cap. This is then in more cardboard packaging with the Garnier name and product description. For the environmentally aware I add that I think this is a whole load of unnecessary packaging as I just threw the box away as soon as I got home and it seems like such a terrible waste of all that cardboard.
The plastic tube has the name of the product on the front and 'anti bacterial agent' on the back in several different languages, as well as an address. It also states that the product is dermatalogically tested which ties in with the garnier advertising which says that their research is supported by the British skin foundation (although I'm not quite sure what that means!)
I like the packaging as it is unique and also the colours seem appropriate for an anti-bacterial product although I'm not sure why I say that! The turquoise colour seems fresh and pure, very nice.
INGREDIENTS
The active ingredients in this are zinc which helps to control sebum production which can lead to shiny skin and spots, an anti-bacterial agent to treat the cause of spots and natural cucumber extract to sooth and hydrate skin.
Unfortunately this is a problem if your spots are purely hormonal as this treats spots by assuming the cause is purely bacterial, however if you are simply prone to spots through your teenage years they are going to keep coming back no matter how many bacteria you get rid of. The spot pen works by its anti bacterial action which kills of the bacteria which cause the initial infections that lead to spots. Spots generally are cause by a buildup of oil or dirt in pores which then becomes infected causing redness and inflammation. This pen contains all of the ingredients needed to fight this!
APPLICATION
Application is really really easy, you just squeeze out a little of the clear gel onto the spot directly from the tube. I would recommend this as opposed to using your fingers which can transfer more dirt and oils onto your face. It can be a little difficult to get exactly the right amount especially as it starts to run out and I often end up squeezing out way more than i need but I suppose it can't do any harm can it?
You can then supposedly apply makeup over the top however in my experience makeup does not go over this stuff, I try to apply foundation over the top of this and I just end up with a beige flaky sticky mess, therefore I now apply this at night when I don't need to wear any makeup! It is a bit of a pain because the whole reason I need to wear makeup is because I HAVE SPOTS and the reason I buy this product is because I HAVE SPOTS so you'd think they'd make the two work together just a little bit better!
RESULTS
Like I said before this doesn't claim to completely get rid of your spots in an hour or anything stupid like that, but I find after a couple of applications my spots have reduced dramatically and feel dryer and less inflamed, like the infection has gone. The redness is still there for a bit but the spots are much easier to cover even after the first application, usually my spots shine right through any makeup i try to put on them but this makes them much easier to hide!
The zinc does in fact reduce shine and I found that my shiny oily cheeks were somewhat mattified a couple of days in which I assume will further contribute to spot reduction.
ANY DISADVANTAGES?
Well the makeup thing is a pain I I also found that for quite a while even after the spot had dried up I was left with a red blemish on my face afterwards which still needed concealer to cover it. These fade but are still a bit annoying!
When you apply the gel it stings on spots for about ten seconds, only mildly though so its extremely bearable. I take this to mean that it is actually doing something and it actually gives me more confidence in it!
WOULD I BUY IT AGAIN?
I will be buying it again as I like it, it does what it says it will and my skin has dramatically improved since I started to use this product. There are also more superficial things like the smell which is fresh and clean and I do love, it is faintly cucumber and also the clear gel is lovely and cooling on my skin.
10ml actually goes quite a long way and I still have a lot of this left after squeezing out a substancial amount twice a day for about three weeks. I shouldn't need to buy another one for about two or three months I reckon.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT?
I would, for a good price (see later!) this works while being good for your skin, smells lovely, lasts, and I generally think this is great stuff!
PRICE
Very very reasonable! I bought this for £3.49 from superdrug and I think this is a fair price to pay for clear skin! Certainly cheaper that the clearasil equivalent although more expensive than clean and clear's version. It's up to you to decide for yourself if this is worth it...I THINK IT IS!!!
Advantages: Gets rid of spots - yippee Disadvantages: none
Pure as the driven…
I am prone to the odd spot around the chin area and it really gets on my nerves. I was reading New Woman about 6 months ago and saw an advert for this new spot pen. I thought I would give it a try one day. I picked mine up from Boots for £2.49 and trundled off home.
The Packaging
-----------------
This little miracle comes in a blue box with directions for use on the back. The tube itself is small at only 10ml. The applicator ... ...to apply to the evil spot. It is very simple and plain really, nothing that screams out anything embarrassing. The whole packaging is all very discreet.
How and When to Apply
-----------------------------
You will obviously use this if you have a spot, and so when one of the evil critters decides to pop up on your face (usually if you have a date or a meeting or anything that involves wanting to look your best) you can now use this. The best thing ...

The range aims to fight the effects of oily skin, purifying the skin and making it clear and spot free. These spots hadn't been picked, weren't broken skin- they were just spots. I could feel the gel drying them out which isn't nessecarily a bad thing. The stinging ...

Since coming off the pill I have started to get spots which get worse when I have PMT. I think that age of nearly 24 I am too old for this so I decided to do something about it. When I first brought it was on special offer at £3.25 and I brought a 2nd tube at full price in Superdrug at £4.64 for a 10 ml tube. The first tube lasted about 6 weeks and I think that it would have lasted longer but I found it hard to dispense the right amount from the ... ...put in on my spots before going to bed and when I woke up they had already shrunk and looked less red. It even works on those nasty painful ones that make horrible lumps under your skin. It doesn't overdry the skin in the surrounding area which is a problem with many other spot treatments.
