I have been every colour I dare, and when I was shopping in Boots,Looking for a change.I came across this new product from l'oreal Couleur Experte! The thing that made this product stand out to me on the shelf, was the bright RED box and the fact its larger than other hair colour boxes,by nearly half. So here I am looking at the box and its not quite shouting at me,Whats different!!!! So on closer inspection,I noticed the words Multi-tonal colour system.... and on even closer inspection(reading the back and sides) i realised it was a Highlighting kit(well sort of) The other thing that Caught my attention was the Price.. £12.99,but thankfully I managed to catch it whilst it was on offer £9.99 Expensive in my reckoning. But something shouting in my little brain, Go on your WORTH IT!!! So after reading what it was all about I bought it...
It has taken me about 6 weeks to pluck up courage to try this new Multi tonal system out and asked a friend to help me,but I got bored of waiting,so I decided to go alone... Firstly...put aside ONE HOUR at least Read the instructions carefully, they are very easy to read and follow, but be aware of the warnings as some people who have sensitive scalps shouldnt use it.
Inside the packaging is 2 plastic trays, crammed with lots of "goodies" Inside plastic tray 1 is the colour and developer, and a pair of plastic gloves Inside plastic tray 2 is a sachet of lightning developer powder and creme, conditioner and a pair of plastic gloves.and a applicator brush(bit like a large mascara brush) All the packages are numbered for ease of use.
So begin with the ALL OVER COLOUR and this is applied to dry hair. Application is just the same as most other hair colours( a section at a time and apply from the roots to the ends) I find this very easy to do as I have been colouring my own hair for years. I tend to have my own colouring brush to section my hair,as i find this easier. Once you are satisfied that all the hair has a good coating of the colour, you can leave the bathroom for about 25 minutes. The colour won't drip, but be careful about touching things too closley.
Once the 25 minutes are up(this bit is a bit messy) you need to wet the hair slightly and bring the colour to a lather then rinse off, this can take up to about 15 minutes!
The next part is a little bit more daunting as its quite new territory for me. mix the powder and creme in the plastic tray, and then following the guidelines in the leaflet( which are very good) take a few strands of hair(for a subtle covering) coat the mascara looking brush with the lightning mixture and apply from the middle of the hair (not the roots),Give the strands a good coating, now including the roots and then carry on like this. It is recomended that you go from side to side to get an even coating. I found doing the back of my hair quite hard as I couldnt see if i was getting an even coating, but i then became a bit slap dash and just went for it.
when you are satsified you have done enough, wash the product off( i rinsed for about 5/10 mins just to be sure) then apply this conditioner, the smell in my opinion is quite foul! It has apricot oil in it and was worse then the hair colour smell!!!
and there you have it.
The results were great the all over colour is very natural looking and the highlights were very subtle. I just wished I had done more highlights, but will be braver next time.
I would definatley buy this product again, and the kind people at l'oreal have added a £3.00 off voucher inside the pack.
I believe there are about 10 colours in the range. It is available for most Boots stores and I guess the supermarkets will be selling it too.
Look out for a BIG box in Bright RED packaging.
Go on you know you want to! enjoy! www.lorealparis.com

Advantages: Lovely rich colour, beautiful shine, and you can control the highlights. Disadvantages: You must think about your natural colour, and careful not to mix the base and highlights!

Review of L'Oreal Couleur Experte
Advantages: Glossy colour, shows up well, good price Disadvantages: Very strong smelling & messier than all other dyes I've used (probably due to the fact you need to dampen hair)
