If you saw a list of words like the following: 'Finity-Calorie-Extension-Builder-Art-Architect-Curl-Discovery' which beauty product enters your mind? Is it mascara-because this is what these words represent? I have a dozen or so mascaras regimentally laid out in front of me like a row of soldiers. All of them have been part used and then abandoned as none of them do the job I want them to. I want a mascara that lengthens and thickens my eyelashes; I want a mascara that doesn't clog them into blackened clumps but remain individual; I want a mascara that doesn't smudge but is easily removed by my preferred cleansing routine; I want a mascara that leaves my eyelashes soft and nourished and not brittle and hard; I want a mascara that doesn't irritate my eyes; I want my mascara to have a neat brush that doesn't stick in my eye when I apply; Some of the mascaras laid out in front of me reach some of my expectations, but none of them achieve all of them.
I bought L'Oreal Double Extension by mistake
as I thought I was buying L'Oreal Lash Architect in the silver tube. As soon as I removed the wand from the packaging it seemed very bulky and with good reason as it is double ended. One end is black mascara with applicator and the other end is white mascara again with applicator. I almost returned it unused to Superdrug as the very idea of white mascara appalled me. However, the white mascara acts as a primer base coat on the lashes to be followed by the ultra-lengthening mascara. But is was so cack-handed to get used to this process and so time consuming that I almost gave up on the first application. Eventually I got the hang of it and this is my chosen method in order to get the best results from L'Oreal Double Extension Mascara.
I use my eyelashes curlers on clean lashes and then apply the primer to one set of lashes and within seconds apply the black mascara from the other end. This is fiddly and at first I got my hands covered in mascara as I forgot to turn the wand around. White mascara is difficult to see so beware of coating the lashes with too much as then the primer will go clumpy and consequently so will the applied black mascara. I stand by the window in a natural light for the first stage and found it disconcerting to see a set of white lashes-as if I was heading for frostbite. Don't do as I did and apply the white primer to upper and lower lashes all in one go. Of course it is simpler to do it that way because of having to keep changing ends which is a nuisance but I soon got used to applying mascara using a completely different process. I believe the secret is to apply the black mascara on top of the primer when it is still moist ensuring clump free coverage.
With just one coat of the black mascara, applied easily from the root to the tip, the effect was very impressive. My lashes seemed to double in length and thickness without looking spidery and there was no evidence of clumping-my lashes remained silky looking and individual. One coat was enough for day-wear and a double application is great for night time. Reluctantly confessing that I don't always remove my make-up when I go to bed (Sluttish I know) I woke up in the morning with this mascara completely intact and not a smudge to be seen. The L'OrealDouble Extension Mascara passed the brittle test too as my lashes also felt and looked soft even after sleeping. Using my usual face cleansing wipes every trace of mascara was removed without rubbing, although not all face cleansing wipes removed it, just the ones that claim to remove make-up and certainly not the exfoliating wipes-steer clear of those.
I know that some mascara irritate my eyes but during my six weeks of using this L'Oreal product I have had no adverse reactions. This product is allergy tested but I understand they do test on animals and there are several protest groups campaigning against this practice so buying this L'Oreal product is up to the consumer.
The L'Oreal Double Extension Mascara passed all my criteria except perhaps the necessary bulkiness of the wand due to there having to be two useable ends although the brush is nicely shaped and reaches into the corners. I am also concerned that the white mascara is going to run dry before the black mascara even though both applicators consist of 6ml the product. Apart from this the product is excellent. No smudging, no brittleness, no clumping, removes easily, lashes look instantly thick, long and healthy and an affordable price of around seven pounds.
