Last night my 9 year old daughter was having a dressing up session emulating her big sister (and not myself I hasten to add!) and decided to rummage through my vast collection of make up to complete the picture. Amongst the collection was L'Oreal's Double extension mascara. I acquired this mascara after hostessing a Virgin Vie party. They do a similar product which I was about to order. My neighbour informed me of the L'Oreal Double extension product she had purchased and hated...... so I could have this instead.Anything to oblige- and save a tenner , I decided to accept her offer. Her displeasure with the item was due to having long lashes in the first place, after using the L'Oreal product, her lashes felt 6inches longer!! Having barely any lashes myself, I thought yea, I will definitely give it a go. So, here we are a fortnight later.....! My daughter walks into the room led by these enormous lashes, and before we could stop ourselves we just burst out laughing. Her response was of course to threaten us with 'Childline'. We didnt really mean to laugh, and neither is this a negative reaction to the product. Her eyelashes just dominated her whole appearance. Luckily for her she already has the most wonderful long thick lashes, so she wouldnt need this product now or ever. She reminded me of Bette Davis in the film 'Whatever happened to Baby Jane' .I half expected Joan Crawford to come running in behind her. (Ok, so you are too young to know who I am talking about...ask your Mum). My elder daughter rushed to try the mascara her self and gave it the 'WOW' and 'COOL' factor, but she too has reasonably long lashes. The test came when I , almost lashless, tried it. It really works. For the first time I have found a mascara that gives my lashes a noticeable dramatic effect. It is said to be fine for sensitive eyes, which mine are. I firstly applied the white base coat which quickly dried, followed by an application of the black mascara. Initially it was a bit clumpy but careful grooming sorted this out. By design the product is quite big and bulky . This is necessary to incorporate the dual wands, one to each end. The outer casing is half white and half gold. The white section contains 6ml of the fortifying white basecoat used to pre-coat the lashes whilst the gold section contains 6ml of the black ultra lengthening mascara. Both basecoat and mascara appear to dry out quite quickly, so it is not along lasting product. This needs to be weighed up against the cost which is £9.99. Of course mine was free, so it was definitely worth it, though I would consider purchasing another. Now, the story of my 9 year old daughter continues. She had fallen asleep without fully removing her evening make up experiment and woke up in fits of giggles on seeing her reflection in the mirror this morning. It wasnt so funny when we tried to wash it away. Simple pad and water didnt work. I was hesitant to use anything stronger. It cant have been effectively waterproof as it left her with large dark circles under her eyes..stained by smudges and streaks. (And to think I believed my hubby when he told me the dark patches under his eyes were as a result of working hard ....). We got most of it off, but not being the most punctual of pupils to arrive at school, we had to set off and leave with the lashes leading the way. What kind of Mother am I? The kind of mother, who just happened to be working in school this morning...Everybody noticed. One member of staff asked why I had sent her in false lashes to school..as if...I am not that bad , honest . OK so we may be on the theatrical side in this family and perhaps I did once send my elder daughter to school in curlers when she was performing in a show but false eyelashes???? I love this product for my own use.For an adult with short, indescriminate lashes it does achieve a dramatic effect. However, not for 'Baby Janes and aspiring Bette Davis' lookalikes.

I'd sworn off L'Oreal 2 years ago when I tried their Lash Architect and all it did was turn my almost unnoticeable lashes into 3 stubby sticks! But your review has revived in me some kind of hope for L'Oreal mascaras. I will give it another shot - me being such a mascara junkie myself! ;)
