Advantages: Dependable, and reasonable price. Disadvantages: Needs a lot to build a lather
In my books, L'oreal always seems to work for me when it comes to hair-care. It doesn't always give the WOW factor, but I know I can depend on L'oreal products not to make my hair cling to my head like limp seaweed or dry out like pork crackling.
I've tried a great variety of L'oreal formulations over time, from L'oreal Body-building Thickening for men (which was really good - meant for my hubby, but I nicked it) to Elvive Multi-Vitamins ... ...so on and have generally found the products to be reliable and fairly priced.
I have a greasy scalp which is dry on the surface so I'm currently switching between the dry hair version and greasy hair formulation, but I generally use the greasy hair formulation on those days when I really need that extra lift. My hair is extremely fine and flyaway and I find that it gives my hair extra body and weightlessness.

My hair is extremely fine and flyaway and I find that it gives my hair extra body and weightlessness.
The disadvantage is that if you're in a hurry, it's not a great product to use because there is hardly any lather and you have to use tons of it just to build up a lather. The plus point is that I find that my hair doesn't get that limp greasy feeling and it still stays fresh even after a few days. I have mostly found anyway that shampoos that don't give a rich lather tend to be gentler on your scalp possibly because of the lower detergent level?
It does clear the dandruff and stop any itching, but I think like most anti-dandruff shampoos, it treats the symptoms and not the cause. You can use the best shampoos in the world but if you still insist on stuffing sweets and chocolates like me, your scalp will still protest no matter how great the shampoo.
On the whole, I still prefer Nizoral which works extremely well, but that's about eight times more expensive. I've also tried Head and Shoulders but find that Elvive Anti-Dandruff is a superior product because it's milder. (The Head and Shoulders shampoo tended to dry my scalp out)
On the downside, its ingredients include Propylene Glycol (which can be a trigger for sensitive skin) and alarming sounding colours like CI 47005/Acid Yellow 3,CI 42090/BLUE 1 and of course, PARFUM/Fragrance - a pleasant apple-bubble-gummy scent.
While I appreciate the snazzy modern packaging, I don't know why they bother making the concoction colourful really. Do any of us really stand in the shower gawking at the pretty pearly-greeny hues of our shampoo? If you're anything like me, I just wanna get out of there as soon as possible - it's cold and boring in the bathroom. I am generally more inclined towards shampoos that are colour and fragrance-free as they don't make my sensitive scalp break out in a rash - but then again, that's just me.
All in all, this shampoo is a great shampoo for daily use but I'm wondering and hoping that they will come up with a sensitive scalp version sans parfum and additives soon. I love cosmetic products that work, but at the same time I wonder what makes them work so well and I worry about possible long-term damage from all those chemicals.
Price - at Boots, you can get 250ml for GBP 1.98 and 400 ml for GBP 2.98. Watch out for the 3 for 2 offers as well.
Advantages: Smells lovely. Disadvantages: Didn't clear my dandruff and made my scalp flakier!!

~ What do L'Oreal say and promise? ~
They say that they have combined 2 ultra-effective active ingredients in a unique formula to prolong the anti-dandruff action:
* Actirox ~ acts from the first use to eliminate dandruff and prevent if from re-appearing.
* Equaderm ~ a mild cleansing base that soothes and restores the scalp's natural balance and completes the anti-dandruff action.
Scalp itchiness is calmer and and hair is left healthy ... ...use and prevents re-occurrence.

My Experience

~ Smell ~
Being so used to the quite repugnant smell of T-Gel, I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely smell of this shampoo, with a hint of apple. Your hair really does smell great after using it.
~ How to use it ~
I know you may think that this is an odd sub-section but some 'treatment' shampoos have to be left on for a certain length of time for them to work. ...

Advantages: Good brand and gentler than head and shoulders Disadvantages: leaves hair a bit dry, too harsh for regular use for me
...the off the shelf brands L'Oreal and Pantene are my two favourites. This particular L'Oreal product is aimed at the snow shouldered dandruff market obviously - though this is a more tricky shampoo to get right I find as anti-dandruff shampoos tend to be a lot harsher and I have a sensitive scalp. The important competition here though is Head and Shoulders obviously and I must say I think this wins hands down.
I have always found head and shoulders ... ...even burned my head in the past (much to my hair dressers distress). This product has left me with no worse a problem than dry hair though and with a good combination conditioner this would be easily solved I believe.
After a somewhat lack lustre hair washing routine recently due to much travelling I found that this product quickly took care of the first bout of dandruff I had for many years and am very pleased with it's effectiveness in this area. ...

The resulst ARE amazing! My scalp was spotless and the itching was history. I frequently used it for a long time, then I moved onto a different shampoo (simply because my scalp wasent a problem and stayed spotless even after changing shampoo) Now months later my scalps started itching in places so im back onto Elvive and the results are brilliant second time round. Very consistant and a must have for ...

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the winner is, L'OREAL PARIS ELVIVE, ANTIDANDRUFF INTENSIVE SHAMPOO TREATMENT!
(How about that for a long name!)
So I have always had a problem with dandruff, someday worse then others. I have quite a sensitive scalp so I have to be careful about what I use. But sometimes worse then this I get greasy hair very quickly. Too quickly! I have tried the famous Head and shoulders wish worked for all of 2 days or so before my head was itching like I had lice! (Which I did not? just to confirm with you!) But I could not use it anymore. Plus if I'm honest?. Completely honest with you, I feel as a young fashionable female it cramps my bathrooms style just a little bit? a tiny bit?. A fraction! But then one day walking around boots, or somewhere along those lines I saw this advertised. Dark blue ...
Advantages: Soothing and does what it says it does - i.e. gets rid of dandruff Disadvantages: None so far but scalp could get used to it forcing another change of shampoo
ElviveAnti-Dandruff 'Intensive' Shampoo is the one elixir of which I write.
Before we go on is it me, or is dandruff a purely male problem? In the wonderful world of TV advertising, it's seemingly OK to show men with snowdrifts on their shoulders, but women's shampoos are all about nourishing your hair back to health (what cock, it's dead!) and being filmed in slow motion, and all because 'they're worth it'. Oh yes, and they all have some noncy secret ingedient - Feedyalocs 7 or Nutribarnet v3.0.
I suppose we're just lucky that the same principle doesn't apply to toilet paper; women holding soft rolls of it to their (face) cheeks whilst men have a really good scr????..no I can't go on. At least with Charmain Ultra, bears really do 'do it' in the woods!
Standing there in a lurid blue bottle with orange detail, it's easy to spot even ...
