I have been dying my hair for quite some time now and i have always used L'Oreal Excellence Extra Protective Creme Colourant because of it's brilliance.

The contents of the hair colourant is extremely good value for money. You get Protective serum Pre-colour care, A tube of colour, A big bottle with applicator nozzle with some more gunk in it, Ceremide protein conditioner and some gloves in their own canister for use when you apply the colourant to your hair.

If it's your forst time using hair colourant it's always best to read through the instructions or even if you have used it before just to be on the safe side and check that your doing what your suppose to be doing.

The first step is to rub in the Pre colour serum mainly to the damaged parts of the hair. For example, on the ends of the hair to protect them from damage. There isn't enough protective serum for all of your hair which is why the instructions suggest that you only apply it to the damaged parts of the hair to prevent more damage to these parts.

The second step is to squirt the tube of dye into the applicator bottle and shake vigorously to ensure that all the colourant is fully mixed. The time is takes to do this is how long you should leave the Pre-colourant serum in for.

The next step is to apply the mixture to all of your hair making sure that you get an even coverage. You dont have to wash out the Pre-colourant serum as you leave it in while you put the dye on your hair to protect it from damage. It's always best to wear an old towel around your neck incase you get any dye on your clothes and it would stain.

The mixture goes on the hair really well and does not dripp or run at all, i did however get some dye on my forehead and neck. I suggest that if you get some on your skin that you wash it off immediately to prevent it from staining your skin. This happened to me when i dyed it before and i had black stains on my forehead and neck for about 3 days after colouring (very embarassing).

The colourant takes exactly 30 mins to dye the hair which can drag on a bit but the results are well worth the wait.

The next step is to wash the colourant out of your hair until the water runs clear just to ensure you rinse out all of the hair colourant and there is no irritation. If an irritation does occur discontinue use with the product but i have had no problems with this product since ive been using it. I recommend this product to anyone who wants an even covergae and an amazing colour result for their hair.

The last step is the hair conditioner. There is enough for two washes. Use the first half when you have coloured your hair and the second half the next time you wash your hair.

The conditioner is very thick and has a more pleasant smell than the dye. You have to leave the conditioner on for 2 mins like suggested in the instructions.

Lastly you need to dry your hair to see the full results of the colourant. The end result leave your hair feeling fresh, shiny and you get a lovely rich and even colour. I used the rest of the conditioner the nest time i washed my hair and it gave my hair more shine and a richer colour.

I think that the price of the colourant is very good value for money. It's £5.50 and with all the products you get inside the box gives you a great colour without damaging your hair.

You should do a test before colouring your hair. I recommend a 48 hour skin test to see if you react well towards it. I didn't bother doing a skin test as i have never had problems with dying my hair, but it doesnt mean that everyone will have the same reaction.

Also the instructions gives you details on how to colour your hair if you are colouring your entire head or if you just need to touch up the roots.

Overall i would recommend this colourant to anyone, it's easy to use, it's not at all messy and you get a brilliant colour result without damaging your hair.

Thanx From Kerrie : )

This is a much better first review than mine was! Welcome to ciao. I used to colour my hair at home all the time, but after several nightmarish disasters I now rely on the experts!
