If it wasn't for hair serum, I'd probably never leave the house. Without it, my long, thick, curly hair is just one big mass of frizz, and anyone seeing me in the street would think that wonderful 1970's cartoon 'The Hair Bear Bunch' had come to life.

Over the years I've used every single make of serum I've found in the shops: Frizz-Ease, Nicky Clarke, Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington, Boots Trichologie etc. etc. ad infinitum. And while they all made a significant improvement to my hair, they were hardly miracle workers.

Recently, however, I discovered a serum that really is the answer to frizzy hair prayers. That product is a serum from the L'Oreal Kerastase Oleo Relax range.

Oleo Relax is the Kerastase solution for very frizzy or dry hair, and comprises, shampoo, hair masque (conditioner) and serum. You can't get the products in shops, but only from salons or online salons. I get mine from www.thehairshop.co.uk.

The serum comes in a lovely orange translucent bottle containing 125 ml of the product. It costs around Ł12, but before you recoil in horror, consider that you get 125 ml for your money, whereas the shop-bought ones frequently retail for 6 quid for a measly 50 ml. So you're getting a salon quality product for less than the price, ml for ml, of an inferior high street one.

The first way in which Oleo Relax Serum differs from the norm is the texture. It is much thinner than other serums, and far less sticky. And unlike the high street bought serums, a little really does go a long way.

To use, squirt serum into palm (or fingertips for short hair), rub palms or fingertips together and apply to either wet or dry hair.

For my long, thick hair, I use 2 squirts if I'm applying to wet hair, and I after rubbing it into my hair I comb it thoroughly through. I then leave my hair to dry naturally, resulting in lovely defined curls instead of frizzy straw.

Just lately, though, I've been wearing my hair straight most of the time by using ceramic straighteners after blow-drying. In this instance, I prefer to use the serum on dry hair. After straightening, I apply one squirt of serum and smooth it over the finished style.

Either way, the result is amazing. My hair is shiny, silky, and completely frizz-free.

Oleo Relax contains silicones and oils to both smooth and shine the hair. I don't know if it's the concentrations of these ingredients that make it so difference, or if it's because high street serums use only silicone and no oil, but I do know that that the results of normal serums do not begin to compare with Oleo Relax.

If your hair is only slightly dry or frizzy, Oleo Relax might be too strong for you, but if you've got real 'problem' hair, it's a gift from the gods.

Somehow I don't think this will suit my hair type, sometimes I wish it was that simple, still must not grumble as it does require little attention. Avril

Well, your hair looks gorgeous in your photo - not frizzy in the slightest!
