There are many different products in the range, and today I will be reviewing: "L'Oreal Kids Smoothie Shampoo 2-in-1 in Burst of Blueberry".
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? The texture of the shampoo is creamy and bright blue. It is quite runny so don't squirt too much out of the bottle as I've found it can slip out of hands easily.
WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE? Pathetically, the smell was the main reason I bought this shampoo. It smells AMAZING! It smells like tropical fruit in Hawaii. I absolutely adore it!
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? A 265 mL bottle will run you about 4.49 CDN or 1.83 GBP**
**subject to being totally wrong
I find this to be moderately priced. Some shampoos are a
lot cheaper, others can run up into the dozens, so this one is right in the middle. Fabulous!
WHERE CAN IT BE FOUND? L'Oreal kids can be found in the haircare section of the chemists and grocery stores. It might also be found in the "Baby care" section.
WHAT IS IT SUPPOSED TO DO? From the back of the bottle, people:
"L'Oreal Kids is so gentle, it's tear free!No knots can resist the 2 in 1 formula of L'Oreal Kids. Its creamy formula helps condition dry hair and split ends, leaving hair soft and manageable."
It sounds great for kids or adults!
WHAT IS THE PACKAGING LIKE?
The Packaging is so cute! Kids will love it. It is a fin (like a dolphin or shark fin) shaped bright blue bottle with a yellow eye on the front of the bottle, making it look like some aquatic animal. On the front is a splashy loud banner declaring itself to be "L'Oreal KIDS!" with the usual information about what it is on the front. On the back are the normal advertising blurbs about the product, a list of ingredients, and a website, l'oreal kids.com
The packaging is cute, but I also found it to be problematic. The slanted shape of the bottle makes it so that when you squeeze the product out, you do so at a 90 degree angle....perhaps that's not a very good explination, but let's just say.....um....watch what you are using to catch this stuff! It could kind of sting, you know?
I would like to point off the flip-top lid and securing capsule for this product are absolutely fantastic. The lid is designed in a way so that there is absolutely NO product excess around the top. The lid is also incredibly secure and strong and doesn't fall off no matter how many times I flip it open under ice cold water!
HOW DO YOU USE IT?
Wet your hair and hands, then pour shampoo into your hands and massage into hair and scalp. Rinse!
MY EXPERIENCE
L'Oreal kids claims to be "tear-free", but it most certainly is NOT! With all the extra colouring and fragrance agents added, this stuff will sting like a bee's behind if it gets into your eyes!
This stuff felt very refreshing and cooling on my scalp and in fact, did my hair feel very very soft. I liked it a lot, and would probably repurchase.
However, this doesn't really leave my hair "silky soft and manageable", or feeling "conditioned" (yes there is a difference between "soft" and "conditioned", as all those who have conditioned their hair know!) 2-in-1s are defenitely a good hair cleanser, but they don't condition as well as a normal conditioner. If I were using this on Little Roxanne, I might follow up with a de-tangler or leave in conditioner.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? One bottle of this stuff lasts me about one and a half to three months -- quite good.
CONCLUSION:
I originally bought this to alternate with my Holy Grail Herbal Essences shampoo. I love Herbal Essences but it is quite "heavy" and I was concerned it was leaving buildup in my hair (I was my hair every day) So I wash with the 2-in-1 every other day. I love the smell and bottle of this 2-in-1, as well as the light cooling sensation. However, this doesn't really condition at all, so if you want to use it I would advise following up with a seperate conditioner (I have very short hair so it's not a huge problem for me).
Again, this stuff really is hard on the eyes so I wouldn't use it on kids. I remember when L'Oreal kids first released their hair care range they had six shampoos--SEPERATE shampoos and conditioners--and now those seem to be gone in favour of these 2-in-1s. I remember as a child using those and remembering they did not sting my eyes at all..... I wish L'Oreal would bring those back!
I am really on the fence about this shampoo. It makes my hair soft, yet doesn't condition, smells beautiful, has terrible yet cute packaging, and stings like mad.
Advantages: this product leaves the hair shiny and does not sting the eyes. it also leaves the hair tangle free so much easier to brush. Disadvantages: it takes a while to rinse so if you have a child who doesnt like hair washing this could be a problem.
