If there is one item that I usually don't leave the house without its mascara. I don't wear tons of makeup but I kind of feel naked without it! I have quite long lashes, so I'm lucky in that respect, but I am always looking for the next best mascara to make the most of it. I'm a massive fan of Max Factor & Lancôme - they have achieved the best look so far so I flit between the two.

I bought the mascara in "Midnight Black" colour from Boots for £8.99. The tube is very sleek and appealing, black with silver writing. It claims on the tube that is "False Lash Effect Mascara".
The Claim
The L'Oreal website states the following about the brush - "The exclusive brush gives extreme volume, curve and length to your lashes. For a spectacular glamorous look with clean cut definition and virtually no clumps."
The Reality
Firstly, before unscrewing the lid on this mascara I had really high hopes. However, the brush is covered with bristles which are in turn appear to be overloaded with the product. The brush is straight with no curves etc (unlike the product picture above) which are popular with a lot of mascaras on the market and it was hard to see how this would get more volume length, curve etc as it states.
As I put the mascara on my lashes, I'd love to say that I was proven wrong. The mascara does go on thick but your lashes literally look like they are stuck together and there are masses of clumps on the end of them. Not surprising really after seeing how much gets loaded on the brush In the first place!
Despite the lashes being overloaded, it didn't give me as great an effect as I expected, so not to be deterred, I got out my Ruby and Millie eye lash comb (which I use every time I use mascara, but I wouldn't believe how much mascara I had to pull off of my lashes with this to stop me looking like a clown!) I then applied another coat of mascara making sure this time to wipe the side of the brush on the edge of the opening so that any excess was off of the brush. After doing the second coat, my lashes are vastly improved but still not perfect. They are still clumpy and after combing the lashes for a second time I was still not overly impressed with the effect.
I would also like to point out that, although they claim to curve the lashes, I'm not sure what they base this on. I have an eyelash curler but I only ever use it when I'm going out in the evening and want a better effect. However, this mascara - although it eventually covered my lashes and did almost get the false lash effect, did make them look short and stumpy. As I mentioned before, I have long lashes so I was surprised that it actually made them look horrible, short and spikey! So I had to use the curler to get a better effect.
Conclusion
I wouldn't buy this mascara again and I wouldn't recommend it. There are much better mascaras on the market out there that are also within the same price range (maxfactor being one of them). I am still using this mascara everyday but its mainly because I hate wasting money. I can eventually get the look I want from this mascara after A LOT of work - several coats and several goes over with an eyelash comb to stop me looking like I have hairy spiders legs on my face! I have just read a few more reviews on this site on this mascara, and it appears that I am not alone in my thoughts about this mascara! I'd expect this of a cheaper brand, in fact, change the name and it would be easy to believe it was a cheap brand. For such a big name it is a big disappointment and I wouldn't buy it again.
Advantages: You get great defined, curly lashes Disadvantages: It isn’t waterproof
I found this product out from an advert on the TV and thought to myself wouldn’t it be great if it produces the effects as stated. So I went out and brought some.
L’Oreal has always been what I would describe as a good, reliable brand. When looking in the shop I found the mascara as easy as anything. It didn’t come in a box but the mascara was attached to a flat piece of white card which had attached to it a clear plastic cover containing the actual ... ...itself is in a silver matt finished 8ml container and on the lid at the very top is a non-metallic shiny silver end. It looks quite classy simply from the way it is shaped and it isn’t circular in shape around the edges. The main body has 4 sides and the lid has 3. When stood against the light as the lid tip is shiny it helps catch the light and looks quite nice. It feels nice to hold and you can grip it well – this is the advantage of having the ...

Advantages: Great effect, lasts for a long time Disadvantages: Packaging is messy, melts, THE LID
Ok.. I'm a sucker for mascaras, along with blusher, lipsticks and pretty much anything makeup related. I saw this new mascara and was attracted by the model on the poster who so blatently was wearing false eyelashes but still made me go "ooh buying that. now." The packaging is a nice silver colour and it's a angular tube, more attractive than the competitor's packaging but not too practical which you'll read about later. I think I paid £8.99 for ... ...it's mascara" this moto also applies to most other things in my life, but mainly makeup. Crazy I know. So, I buy the thing and get it home. After ripping it open and trying to unscrew the lid for about ten minutes I pulled out a very long brush, the brush itself is just the right size and wasn't any special shape; just brush shaped. Now for the test; I applied it slowely right to the tips of my lashes and it looks fabulous; my lashes were really ...

Advantages: Great, full lashes Disadvantages: It doesn't exactly lengthen lashes much.
I've always been into my sixties/retro stuff, and adore the look of fake eye lashes. They can make anyone look instantly beautiful! However fake lashes are obviously not very practical, especially with my habit of drunkenly crawling into bed without taking my makeup off.
So, with my fake eyelash obsession, I am instantly drawn in by this new gimick - mascaras that claim to give you a fake eyelash look without actually wearing fake eyelashes. Having ... ...to buy this lash architect one from loreal for the reasonable price of £8.99.
Unlike the Bourjois one, where you have to put the white undercoat on first and then the colour, this is applied just like a normal mascara, with a lot less fuss. The classy, silver packaging looks like a normal, expensive looking mascara, and you apply it like a normal one too. I found it quite nice to apply - It went on very smoothly, and I felt it was of good quality.

I have the most unglamorous eyelashes they are just short and stick out straight. I hate using eyelash curlers mainly because I can’t be bothered! I'm always on the lookout for mascaras that claim to lengthen, curl and thicken lashes. I normally use Avon beyond colour lash fortifying mascara but had run out of this and I can’t live without mascara. I went into boots (yep here I am again!) and decided to look for a mascara that would actually work. ... ...this was very helpful because there was a chart with all their mascaras listed and exactly what they do. I was drawn to lash architect because it claims to give a false lash effect. There was also a picture of a woman with the most amazing never ending eyelashes, but I think she had the help of something more than just mascara!
So what does this mascara claim to do?
It is enriched with 3D polymers, which is an exclusive formula that wraps around ...

Advantages: Could look good, if you are patient Disadvantages: Pricey, blobby
This is a new product- you've probably seen the adverts on tv with Mila Jovovich sporting some unbelievably (literally- clearly they are computerised!) long eyelashes.
I saw this product on offer in Superdrug for about £5.49 instead of £6.99. As I needed a new mascara, I thought I's give it a a try.
The packaging is kinda cool. Its a weird shaped silver contraption. However, it is rather bulky- I prefer smaller ones as they take up less room.
... ...at the large size of the brush. I find that mascaras with smaller brushes tend to work better, and this brush was definitely bigger that average, making it look quite cheap.
The mascara is quite blobbly, meaning that it is difficult to apply smoothly. The large brush means that is relatively quick to get good coverage, but can be quite awkward, especially for reaching smaller lashes.
The product claims to create the ultimate false lash effect, ...

Advantages: 8ml worth, Readily Available Disadvantages: Clumpy, Wet, Brown
Every mascara wearer aspires to create that ultra long lash effect that is digitally created on the television adverts featuring the likes of Penelope Cruz and other famous superstars being paid a fortune to sell us the next best thing in lash defining mascara products.
In my quest to find an amazing lash enhancing product I have experiences the blobby brand, the gunky goo, the slick stick, the straight brush, the plastic applicator, the curve creator, the two tone twist, the expensive experience, the cheap choice, the wondrous wand and.... the Architect.
This sleek silver tool claims to fulfil every woman's dream of amplified lashes and aims to create the "false lash effect."

Advantages: It is a mascara Disadvantages: Did not work as well as promised
I have to admit that I am a sucker for advertising and this product makes the claim of giving a false lash effect. I tried it because it was on offer at Boots. I was bitterly disappointed. I have relatively long lashes anyway, but I thought for special occasions that this could be the one. I found it to be very fiddly and time consuming.I also found that it became flaky after only a few hours and this irritated my eyes. The fact that there were two sides to it means that there is hardly any product in either end. Basically you are fooled by putting on the white stuff as well as the black stuff into simply applying more coats of mascara than usual. I think that if you buy a quality mascara eg. L'OrealLashArchitect and apply two or three coats then it will have exactly the effect you were seeking to achieve. Pah! false lash effect, false ...
Advantages: Lengthens, Thickens and Nourishes Disadvantages: Bulky and Tested on Animals
; Some of the mascaras laid out in front of me reach some of my expectations, but none of them achieve all of them.
I bought L'Oreal Double Extension by mistake as I thought I was buying L'OrealLashArchitect in the silver tube. As soon as I removed the wand from the packaging it seemed very bulky and with good reason as it is double ended. One end is black mascara with applicator and the other end is white mascara again with applicator. I almost returned it unused to Superdrug as the very idea of white mascara appalled me. However, the white mascara acts as a primer base coat on the lashes to be followed by the ultra-lengthening mascara. But is was so cack-handed to get used to this process and so time consuming that I almost gave up on the first application. Eventually I got the hang of it and this is my chosen method in order to get ...
