This is not a review on a dating agency or a speed dating event. It's a "Super Blendable Perfecting Foundation" and I'm not one to disagree with this self-description of L'Oreal's product True Match. It claims to adjust to the colour and texture of the skin.
***Packaging***
True Match comes in a glass bottle with a clear plastic lid and silver plastic pump action. I found that the pump dispenses enough for a single facial application using a make-up sponge which means that I'm not wasting it or wasting my time returning for second pumps.
*** Application***
Application is easily achieved. I always use a sponge but in the name of reviews tried using my fingers for the first time the other day. I got pretty much the same result apart from messy fingers. This foundation blends really easily since it contains glycerin instead of oil which has previously been used in foundations to improve application and blending.
***The Colour***
There were 10 colours available where I purchased my first bottle but I've since found out that there are up to 24 shades (listed below). Initially this made me dubious… if there's 24 to choose from (depending on the size of the counter) then of course there's bound to be a true colour match in there somewhere?
However, I'm a hasty customer, none of this testing in natural and synthetic light along the jawbone of foundation free skin. I slap two or three shades on the back of my hand and buy the closest - I haven't learnt the error of my ways! I selected N1 Ivory that was close to my skin tone.
I'm naturally fair but have redder cheeks so some foundations look right at my cheeks but too dark else where or I look like I've white washed my rosy cheeks with a pale foundation. Either I got lucky with my hasty technique or it really does match to the colour of your skin even if you're a shade or two out. True match blended well over all parts of my face, evening them without a 'painted in slap' appearance.
I've used it after coming back off holiday on my tanned skin and it still matched well to that too. Previously I've had to purchase darker foundations to use after holidays and lighter ones for my fairer skin times.
***Nitty Gritty***
I have a small indented scar on my face which I usually cover with concealer but that's gone out the window. Also I've found that I need less, if any at all, under-eye concealer too. This along with the fact that tide-lines are practically impossible to achieve even for the laziest of blenders amoungst us, this foundation saves me minutes in the morning when I'm "putting my face on" (from the mouths of babes).
I wouldn't say is completely camouflages spots or blemishes as they are still visable as bumps but colourwise they are less red and much less obvious as a result.
***Breathe in... and out...***
I expected that it would be thick and suffocating on my pores since it has such good coverage but it lets skin breathe. It still feels light and not at all like war paint despite giving flawless coverage. True Match is oil-free so didn't slip or melt away. Equally it wasn't drying like some oil-free cosmetics can be. I use it daily and I find that it lasts a good 8 hours which is what I'd expect of a decent foundation.
***Long Term Skin Care***
Unfortunately it does not contain SPF so if you are concerned about the damaging effect of the sun and prefer SPF containing foundations this might be it's major down fall.
***Removal***
I found it to be easily removed either by make-up remove wipes, cream cleansers and wash off facial products too. Other than that it doesn't come off unless you want it to.
***The Damage?***
In terms of comparison to similar products it is very reasonably priced. I first bought it for an introductory price of £5.99 but my second bottle was £7.99 for 30ml at Boots. Despite this, it's still cheaper than its main rival Maxfactor Colour Adapt.
A friend told me it's still available for £5.99 in other drugstores but L'oreal cosmetics are 3 for 2 in Boots until 7th June 2005 so I couldn't resist.
***Other Information***
Shades Available:
Alabaster, Light Ivory, Soft Ivory, Porcelain, Classic Ivory, Natural Ivory, Nude beige, Sand Beige, Natural beige, Shell Beige, True beige, Creamy Natural, Honey Beige, Buff Beige, Nut brown, Soft Sable, Classic beige, Natural Buff, Cream Café, Sun Beige, Caramel Beige, Classic tan, Cappuccino, Cocoa.
L'oreal state that is it dermatologically tested and recommend shaking well before use.
***In summary***
True match is an innovative easily bendable foundation that gives brilliant lasting coverage without being too heavy. It adapts to your natural skin tone, covers discolouration and flaws. It is sensibly priced against leading competitors. It doesn't contain SPF which is the only reason to my Good rating rather than Excellent. Hopefully it won't take L'Oreal too long to develop a way of including sun protection in True Match.

Going under-cover with L'Oreal... Is it worth it?
Review of L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation by
wildrose9104
Advantages: Great coverage, works well as a concealer, good range of shades, lasts a long time.
Disadvantages: Heavy container, quite a dense foundation so be careful!
L'Oreal is one of those huge global companies that seem to be everywhere at the moment and they're pretty hard to miss what with the numerous TV adverts for the latest hair colour, lip gloss or eyeshadow. L'Oreal have been in the cosmetics industry now for 75 years - quite a long time, and currently own 19 global brands, which include L'Oreal Paris, Maybelline New York and Garnier. They pride themselves on 'enhancing our brand portfolio with innovative ... ...from http://www.loreal.co.uk).
Now normally, L'Oreal products have always been just that little bit more than I would be happy to spend... that was until I gave in after seeing for the hundredth time, their TV advert for True Match Foundation and deciding to follow their instructions for a free sample from their website. This product is part of the L'Oreal Paris line of cosmetics and its claims are 'Adjusts to the colour and texture of the skin.' ...

Definately a true match!
Review of L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation by
vanessa16
Advantages: Lets skin breathe, has SPF 15, doesn't turn skin orange or leave tidemarks
Disadvantages: Quite pricey and doesn't last extremely long (up to 6 hours, not any longer though)
I'm not what I would call a foundation wearer. I've always been wary of the fact that foundation is bad for the skin...& in my experiance it has always looked caked on my skin anyway. However, I was growing a bit tired of my usual tinted moisturiser & thought I'd get myself a good foundation to wear on special occasions. I'd been flicking through a magazine and saw an advert of the gorgeous Eva Longoria modelling 'True Match' foundation. Instantly ... ...tone as myself & the foundation seemed to be working for her in that magazine advert! Anyway, I made my way to my local boots store to search for this foundation. When I finally got to the Loreal makeup section I instantly spotted this foundation...& the price tag beneath it. This foundation is priced at £8.99 - I find this typically expensive for make-up so I had high expectations for this foundation. After reluctantly heading towards the checkout ...

True match? - it is too!!
Review of L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation by
LeopardLili
Advantages: easy blending, a little goes a long way, does not cake
Disadvantages: poorer result over primer than my previous foundation
...My eye was drawn to L'Oreal True Match foundation, partly because of the special offer but also because it claims to be super blendable and 'adjusts to the colour and texture of the skin'. There was a wide range of colours so I tested away to find the best match. Shade N5 in sand (although I prefer sable!) looked great so I took it along with me.
True Match is currently on offer at Boots at £5.99 for a 30ml bottle, a £2 reduction from the normal ... ...glass bottle with a pump action dispenser. The clear lid is sealed on purchase so you can be sure that you have a fresh and hygienic bottle. It claims to offer a true match for your skin, to provide even cover without caking and tide marks and to be super blendable. I'm quite lucky with my skin. It is fairly normal with a few lines around the eyes but no real tendency to oiliness, dryness or spots and pimples. It is a little uneven in texture and ...

Totally Flawless!
Review of L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation by
Lexi26
Advantages: Excellent coverage, and it doesnt seem to rub off!
Disadvantages: None as yet
Why do I love this ?
I only bought this product recently, as I was looking for a new foundation to better cover the imperfections in my skin. If you are like me, you may have old scars from teenage years or inperfections in your skin tone which often find very difficult to cover with foundation unless I use 2 or sometimes 3 different tones to ensure that my face doesnt just look one colour. In addition to all that I have very sensitive skin which ... ...avoid unneccessary allergic reactions if possible!
This foundation is a very light liquid that seems to glide on to the skin and be absorbed (unlike some foundations which are like coating your skin in matt paint) really easily. I used it on top of a layer of plain vitamin E moisturiser, and it the finish was brilliant, even for an amateur like me. There were no tide marks and it really does seem to adapt to the individual tones in your skin. It ...

Blends & Matches well
Review of L'Oreal Paris True Match Foundation by
paperghost
Advantages: Wide choice of shades, looks natural
Disadvantages: Doesn't last long, doesn't give much of a matte feel
What drew me into the L'oreal True Match foundation was the fact that there is a wide variety of shades available to suit everyone's skintone which is great for me because I'm Asian and always find it difficult to get the right shade of foundation without it looking too orange or too dark. In the shop, I tried a few different foundations on the back of my hand and found that this one matched better and looked more natural so I decided to purchase ... ...and hides perfections well, then L'Oreal paris True Match is definetly worth a try.
One really annoying thing about the foundation was that it dried out my face and made the skin on my cheeks, around the eyes and nouse all flaky - it even did that on my fingers! But if I apply mousturiser (which you should do anyway) before, it's perfectly fine.
I'm about halfway through my bottle now and once I finish it, I would definetly be looking for another ...
