Hi guys, I keep coming back like a bad smell this week dont I ! What a product I have for you in this review though, seriously, this stuff is what dreams are made of in terms of make up products. Its L'Oreal Paris Volume Shocking Double Mascara. Now let me introduce the company its made by before I go on to describe the product in deep detail.......
L'OREAL
L'Oreal is a company that was set up in France with the intention of producing a range of cosmetic products for women. It soon became a brand which was well known for its elegance and sophisticated reputation. Over the years and still to the present day, L'Oreal has created cutting edge, state of the art make up products that far out sell and out do other competitive companies in terms of their advancement in the cosmetic world and their quality. The people at L'Oreal have , as they say and I quote ' a passion for innovation, performance, style and a sense of premium which is encapsulated in the 'because your worth it' philosophy ' Though the L'Oreal group is made up of several diffeent divisions, the L'Oreal Paris brand is currently the largest of the companies brands in the United Kingdom, outselling all other divisions and making up a a third of total L'Oreal product sales within this country. L'Oreal Paris not only produce cosmetic prduct but also other well known hairstyling products such as Elnett, Recital, Feria and Open and Casting to name but a small few. L'Oreal would like to make us aware that they invest hugely their money and time to aiding scientific research and technology.
~ So What does this 'Mascara look like then ?
Oh wow! What a massively funky and up to date design this mascara is surrounded by as far as its container, if you like, goes. The only way I can describe the shape of the packaging is to say that it is loosely based on a rhombus though the two lengthy edges are more rounded in shape as opposed to the sharp, parallel lines that a rhombus has ownership of. The packaging is approximately 1.5 centimetres deep at the widest point with the bar code on one side. The bar code can be peeled back to reveal the ingredients listed in English only. There is also a contact address for L'Oreal Paris here, I will include this address in my review at a later stage. We are also informed that this product is made in Italy which I find rather odd. Id have expected this to have been produced in France, for the company to have remained loyal and patriotic to its homeland. I wouldnt have thought it would be any more cheaper to produce in Italy than France as both are very similar countries. Maybe it is all about the money......... There are actually two different types of mascara that make up this product in its entirety. Both are in seperate tubes with seperate lids that when merged together make up this rhombus shape. Now if you can imagine for a second this rhombus shape in your mind....... the two tapered edges are the locations for the two lids, one end for each lid obviously. To the right of each lid is where the tube containing the mascara belonging to that lid begins. The tube travels down the length of mascara one as I will use to identify it until it reaches the lid of mascara number two. and similarly this design is replicated when the mascara packaging is rotated 180 degrees either way. The packaging has two colours, one being a kind of grey marl which occupies the entire area of mascara one and a jet black colour which occupies the entire packaging area od mascara two. On the grey marl area we can see the words SHOCKING double mascara constructeur de volume written down lengthwise with Base, Haute Defenition and the number 1 written at a 90 degree angle to this. All lettering is in a bright, sheened gold. On the black area we have the wording L'OREAL, PARIS VOLUME running lengthways and at a 90 degree angle to these words we have Peigne, Volume, Extreme again all wording on this side is in the same gold hue. All of the descriptive writing is replicated on the orther side of the packaging. I dont think its very important for me to go ito massive detail regarding the very outer packaging. What I will say is do not discard the back of this packaging as this is where the directions for use are printed and until you are familiar with the process, its a good idea to retain this.
~ So........Whats inside this packaging ?
Theres pure delight inside this packaging and, seeing as though your asking, Ill tell you a little more to entice you to become a double mascara user like me ! As I mentioned this is a double mascara in that it has 2 parts to its application. First of all you take the wand from mascara number one and apply this base coating as you would normally apply a typical mascara. This base coating is a structuring formula that primes the eye lashes with a conditioning base coat that gives the lashes defenition. This coating is a silvery colour and this helps indicate you have covered your lashes correctly and evenly once all areas are of course this silvery shade. The wand we have here is not dissimilar to that in a normal single application mascara with short firm bristles on the final inch of a black platic stick which is around 3 inches in length and is attached into the internal area of the lid for mascara one. And mascara number two................. What an amazing effect this has on the lashes ! Now this is by no means any ordinary mascara in this thing here in my hand, its practically a miracle in a bottle. What it does is truly fantastic. Ill explain to you about the so called wand that is used to apply mascara number two. Well its really not a wand to speak of, its more like an inch long length of plastic with 17 small teeth protruding from its edge on just one side. This comb like applicator is of course situated on the end of a very normal looking stick as is mascara number one's wand. L'Oreal have so modernly named this applicator in mascara number two the 'reservoir comb' As with both applicators, when you retract the applicator from the mascara container, it give a kind of pop, the sort you would hear when you have pulled something and released it from a vacuum.Mascara two is also accompanied by a zip like sound due to the comb like design of the wand. L'Oreal proclaim that this noise is a firm indication that the applicator has just the right amount of mascara on it to achieve the desired effects. I for one believe this is a complete gimmick ! This sound would be made whether we like it or not simply by making the neck of the mascara container slightly smaller than standard. I know I could be well and truly off the beaten track with my opinion but that reall is all it is....... an opinion. If any one can explain how this noise could indicate enough mascara to make the lashes as perfect as could be then Id be happy to listen to what you have to say. Its good to learn something new every day right ?
~ So, does this product really shock ?
Actually, in a nutshell, yes ! I followed the instructions, or destructions as I always call them, step by step, doing exactly as L'Oreal Paris instruct on the back of the outer packaging. I opened up mascara number one and heard the indicatory popping noise and took a good hold on my wand applicator. The applicator was very easy to hold as the lid gives enough surface area and chunkiness with which to gain a good strong hold. I then put on a good layer of this lash defining base coat, covering my lashes as evenly as possible until I had turned each lash a silvery colour. I knew then I had applied sufficient amounts of the base coat and was ready to apply the top coating of black mascara. Now L'Oreal at this point in the instruction do not state either way whether you should allow this base coat to dry somewhat or go on to immediately apply mascara number two. I sat and momentarily decided to go ahead and apply the second coating without allowing the first to become sticky or dry. I did wonder that if I allowed the base coating to become slightly sticky before applying the second coating, would that second coating have adhered to my lashes in a better way ? Maybe this is something I shall try for experimental purposes ? As I first opened up mascara number two along came my first shock ! I thought it was broken and began asking myself well where on earth is the wand applicator we all associate with mascara ? Oh dear, I took a look more closely at this point and realised to myself that there was 'something' there on the end of the stick. I just wasnt quite sure what ! Referring to the instructions once more, I discovered that it was this reservoir comb and my heart beat returned to mormal, crisis over ! Now I pulled out the comb once againand proceeded to coat my lashes in mascara and oh my gosh, here came the next shocking moment ! They just grew and grew and grew, like pinocchio's nose when he tells those porkies of his. Ive never seen lashes like it though Ive certainly dreant of them hundreds of times over ! They were whopping, huge, massive ! With each stroke of the comb upwards, they just seemed to take on another dimension. Now Im no scientist or stickler for perfection and so I dont think I could really say whether they are 12 times more voluminous but they certainly appear to be ! I didnt feel afraid to use all of the mascara right there on the comb as according to L'Oreal, I should have the exact right amount for perfect lash result. I went ahead and applied the lot but although the voluminous appearance of the lashes remained, they began to look clumped and well, overly done up. They were clogged somewhat and I didnt like this look, I prefer nicely coated, seperated lashes. I think in future I would definately be a little more reserved with the amount I apply. Both the base coat and the top coat were of a medium consistency, certainly not runny and by no means gloopy and thick. Both have a slight smell to them but of what this is exactly I cannot say. Its very unique to say the least.
~ Would you recommend this to me then ?
Oh most definately. I think that by useing slightly less than is on the wand or comb, the lashes that you will posess after application will be the most strikingly beautiful and most voluminous ones you will ever have had and you wont be able to help wishing that this kind of advancement in mascara could have been made years ago. The end result is so diferent to a normal set of lashes, made up with a run of the mill mascara, that you will have people commenting on them thw whole time. They really do stand out.
~ Where did you get it from ?
I got mine from Boots the chemist and at the moment they have a fantastic deal on with this. If you purchase one you can get a massive 500 extra points on your advantage card. This means a saving of £5.00 off the normal boots selling price. At the moment this mascara is quite pricey and is currently sold in Boots at £10.99. I do honestly believe it is worth its price tag as it really does work miracles. Im also sure that it will be widely available in stores other than only Boots. Give it a go, you wont be disappointed !
~ What goes into this mascara to make it as fantastic as you say ?

Advantages: Longer Looking Lashes Disadvantages: Price and Can be difficult to apply
Before I start the review I must admit that I am a bit of a sucker when it comes to new and 'fantastic' beauty products that claim they can make you look like Cindy Crawford with a small shake of a make-brush! When it comes to mascara I fall for it every time, I must confess I am like nearly every other vain girl around....we all want longer, thicker and more defined looking lashes to bat at the opposite sex...or the same sex if that's your thing.
... ...Double Mascara and thought um I'll know what I am going to buy next time I'm in boots....which was the next day of course....us girls don't like to wait very long to buy these fab new products that promise the earth. On this occasion I can definitely say that I am not disappointed, I mean I don't look like Cindy Crawford and any other supermodel for that matter but I am impressed with the way that the product does work and seems to make my lashes ...

Advantages: it really does give that volume in your lashes Disadvantages: the black dries out quite quick after a couple of months
...given me great lashes again. L'Oreal Paris Volume Shocking Black Mascara let's you comb your lashes as big as you dare. Volume Shocking is the first volume construction mascara for 12x more volume for your lashes!
~~~~~~~~~ WHAT DOES IT LOOKS LIKE ~~~~~~~~~~
This is a very funky new out shape mascara the container shape is very new and different it is hard to explain the shape its a rectangle box shape in the middle and at each end there is a scalene ... ...mascara.
The black side says L'Oreal Paris volume 2 volume extreme.
~~~~~~WHICH SIDE DO I USE FIRST~~~~~~~
Step 1: The base coat arranges how you have your eyelashes , defining them from root to tip. This prepares your lashes so you can then put the next layer on if need be.
Step 2: The black mascara wand is next to be put on, when you hear that zip noise as you pull out the wand, it has taken exactley what it needs to volumise those eyelashes. ...

Advantages: Stays on all day Disadvantages: Clumpy, difficult to use
I recently saw the L'Oreal Volume Shocking advert on TV and, as most girls do, think that looks fantastic and rush out to buy it. I did just that as I am always looking for a better mascara even though the one I have been using for the last year has been great - I, too, wanted the bigger, fuller, longer lashes in two easy steps!
I sadly have been very disappointed with this product. It is difficult to use as the brush and comb are small and this ... ...seem to get the second coat on without it going clumpy and my lashes looking like big fat hairy spiders legs. To top that it has been irritating my eyes and they haven't stopped watering and looking red!
I have persevered with this for a week now and am thinking about giving up with it. Maybe it's me - the other reviews I have read have mainly given it the thumbs up - but ,sadly, I cannot do the same.
One review has given a tip to wipe the comb ...

Advantages: Two mascaras in one, really works, looks interesting too! Disadvantages: A little difficult to grip
Now, I have tried many mascaras in my time. If i could choose just one luxury to take into the jungle, a mascara would be it.
The loreal volume shocking mascara is a double whammy, first the 'construction mascara' (the silver bit) is applied to build up the lashes, adding volume, thickening. The brush is shaped like a regular mascara brush, cylindrical and quite bushy therefore quite straightforward to use. The handle is shaped quite oddly however ... ...that you don't drop it! Once the silver build-up mascara is applied, you can then go on to coat the lashes in the black mascara, found at the opposite end. This is where it gets a little harder. The handle again is shaped quite oddly and takes some getting used to. The brush
is not cylidrical on this end, but designed like a lash comb, which is very helpful. It separates the lashes while coating them in colour, leaving them looking long, thick and ...

Advantages: Boostls up your lashes!!! Disadvantages: None-at-all!!!
a shelf and placed on it was this mascara and also L'OrealParisVolumeShockingDoubleMascara, which are both quite similar mascaras. So I asked for her advice and she told me that the L'OrealParisVolumeShockingDoubleMascara was shaped as a comb so it would make your lashes bulky and stuck together (which also looks drop-dead-gorgeous, I'm not saying that they won't look good that way because they will!!!) but whereas this mascara wasn't a comb it was shaped just like a normal brush which would make the lashes not attached together and apart from one another, so the choice was up to me- jammed together lashes or spaced out lashes. There were pictures showing as samples so I personally thought that this mascara was the one!!!! And that it would make my lashes look stunning. So I got it!!!
Time for the truth!!!
