As I am soon returning back to university I obviously want to look great for going back as do many. My hair is now sorted after the dilemma in my previous review 'No Blonde Ambition Here' but now I wanted to look like I had been away on holiday and not like I had been in Scotland all summer even though I have. After reading through my Glamourmagazine I came across an article on fake tanning. I know many of my friends who use sun beds but the idea just doesn't appeal to me so I then came across their recommendation of L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Tanning Spray. I already had a faint tan from the days I did get some sun but it wasn't really strong enough and I wanted to look healthy and like I'd just come back from a few weeks on a beach holiday.
I was a bit put off by the price of £11.99
though since I only wanted to test the product and might not like it. My solution to this problem was eBay I wasn't sure if anyone would list the product but I tried and low and behold there were some auctions up for it. I ended up getting a full and unused bottle for £4 which was a bargain so for those in the same position I'd suggest looking on eBay there are a lot of unused bottles up and even with postage they are half the price. Also, if you like the product and want to regularly buy it, it makes it a hell of a lot cheaper.
So, I am new to fake tanning as I have always criticised people who have a streaky look as it makes me cringe. The reason I had decided I might try this one is because I wanted some colour and I had heard great things about this one saying it does give a natural tan and no streaky effects. I looked up a few websites about fake tanning and decided that I would follow the process properly to avoid and streakiness or uneven patches. So, it is first recommended that you exfoliate so I got a scrub and got rid of all of the dead skin and wanted to even out my skin as I had some dark/light areas from my real tan which I wanted to even out. Once this is done, it recommends to shave your legs and get your skin perfect then afterwards to use body lotion to makes the skin absorb better.
Once I had done all this I was ready to spray. The packaging is quite nice and summery; it is in a bronze cylindrical can. It has an amber coloured nozzle and on the front the text is in brown and white colours to give a beachy and bronze look to the package. It gives directions of use on the back and caution so that you know what not to do.
So I held the bottle at arms length away from my body as it recommends so not to apply unevenly. One thing I found right away difficult was pushing down the top to get the spray out it was really hard to push and I panicked because I didn't want to spray too much on one area and get it looking horrible. It was quite easy to apply once I got the right hold of the bottle and I sprayed evenly all over, well I hoped.
The spray is clear so you can't tell if you have sprayed too much at one part. Once you think you have sprayed right you rub it in so that it is even and absorbs well. It makes the floor slidy afterwards and even the bottle becomes hard to grip when you have sprayed a while. I'd say the bottle could get about three full uses out of it though as it does take quite a bit. At first you can't see anything and I didn't notice much of a change.
Afterwards I let the spray dry in so you have to wear very loose fitting clothes though as you want it to dry properly. Don't wear white as this gets tan colour on it, you may not think you are tanning but white clothing shows you are. Body lotion before also makes it quite sticky but I still recommend this step as I feel it made the spray go on nicer.
A few hours later, I started to notice I had gotten slightly darker but still not too dark and it seemed even enough. At night I'd noticed some areas had gone a bit streaky which I was unhappy about but it wasn't until I woke up in the morning I noticed the real colour show. Over night it must really absorb but I woke up a golden colour which was really nice. I decided that day though that the patches I wasn't happy about I was going to use my scrub on to get rid of them so that I truly was evenly tanned. After I had done this I looked and it had worked now I really was evenly coloured all over. The only slight tell tale is the hands which on the palms go golden but after my second day I managed to get the palms back to normal by scrubbing them too.
It recommends on the bottle to use daily until achieved colour but for me being slightly tanned already it was enough to just use it once a week. It also recommends using two or three times a week but like I say it depends how dark you want to be. The colour lasts quite well but once a week is best to keep the colour nice.
Overall, I am very happy with my first use of fake tanning spray. This one was a good one to use first, not too pricey even at £11 but obviously £4 is better. It gave me a nice colour, great results so now I can happily return to university no longer feeling too pale. It is easy enough to use and even though at first I panicked about a few streaks if you use a scrub to get rid of the dead skin then it should be perfect. This can be bought at the likes of Tesco, Boots and Superdrug.
