Remarkable, but is it just all talk, or does it do what it says on the tin?
The blurb says that this is the 1st formula from L'Oreal that allows your style to "bounce-back", being Hand, Hood and Helmet resistant.
Well. I'm up for a challenge! Come on L'Oreal lets be having you!

>>>Hair gel….again!
It seems like it's that time again, another month another hair gel review. Seriously, though it seems that all I do is use and review hair gel! Ok, so I'll do my best to be original and not cover old ground. In case, anyone doesn't know anything about me let me try to set the scene.
I am a marketers dream, anything new, and anything shiny or repackaged, I will buy. In essence I am a modern day magpie, except I hunt in the Supermarket and anything new catches my eye.
That said, when I saw this product I was genuinely interested, and not just because it was a newly packaged gel, but because it promises great things. Yeah and I guess because it was on Buy one get one free!
>>>Why!?!?
Technology is a wonderful thing. Studioline claim to have developed a formula that is laced with Pro-Vitamin B5 that gives amazing hold and remarkably an elastic resistance. If you've seen the TV adverts you can break dance on your head and your hair will have stayed in the exact style you created before spinning 89 times on the spot, on your head! The text on the website and the packaging is very impressive. The main claims being:
> Technological Innovation (please remember this is hair gel!) This gel will resist squashing and has a memorising effect! > No Residue, no greasy hair just easy to wash out.

>>>Packaging and first impressions
Indestructible is in keeping with the rest of the L'Oreal StudioLine products packaging. A sleek black tube with a click cap. The packaging is quite compact and sturdy and can withstand most abuse, so don't worry about getting gel all over your smalls when packing your bags. Packed in this little tube is 150ml of gel which lasted me about 3 weeks at a stretch, although it will last for 12 months once opened.
The gel is clear and a very typically gel like consistency. Residue from the gel does form around the cap and goes sticky and solid, but this hasn't affected getting gel from the tube and could be wiped away easily if it was causing offence. The directions suggest applying gel to damp or dry hair, and this is my 1st issue with this gel. The main reason behind my current "style" is that it is a 1-minute wonder 1st thing in the morning as I crawl from my bed towards work. Therefore, it is essential that with a quick dampening of my hair any gel can be whacked on and off I go. With the Indestructible gel even the lightest of dampening to the follicles seems too much.
I found that once applied the gel takes over an hour to dry which means that unless you have time to use a hair dryer (and I don't), the style doesn't hold, it flops. Even on bone dry hair the gel seems to take an age before setting, meaning that my spikes sagged before I'd even finished my first brew! That said, the gel has a faint apple like scent and isn't off putting like many chemical smells that greet you in the morning from other gels.
Once the gel has set, it goes hard and does hold reasonably well. To touch the hair feels a little straw or plastic like, but it isn't too unpleasant. So without further ado, let's mess up my hair!
>>>The Tests!
L'Oreal claims that its brilliant new "Technology " is Hand, Hood and Helmet resistant, designed to bounce back into place. So lets have a go. Each test was done on a new day so I had reapplied the gel and let it settle in prior to trying to destroy my hair.
Hand - Although the hair is quite hard, you can definitely squash it down and it does pop back to place. Rubbing the hair though brings a snow storm. The gel clumps up and comes away from the hair all too easily leaving no hold and a strange texture on the hair. FAIL
Hood - I'm not a big hoody wearer these days, but I dusted out my old Vans hoody and put it on. Not really surprising, but the gel held well and maintained its shape after being under the hood and after a relentless period of hood on, hood off! I say not surprising, as most gels that have a dry hold will be able to withstand a hood as the pressure it puts on the style is very limited. PASS
Helmet - I don't have a helmet, but I do have a hat! On with the hat and after half an hour off comes the hat and there is a slight resemblance to the style prior to the hat going on. The hair is now compressed and doesn't bounce back at all. FAIL
By now you may have guessed that I'm not overly impressed with this gel. Having failed 2 out of the 3 claims and quite clearly leaving a residue on the hair, it's not really a surprise that is it quite hard to wash out the effects of the gel, and a simple rinse doesn't cut it at all, we're talking shampoo and conditioner (or at least a 2-in-1!).
>>>Conclusions
The price is about £3.50 and I'm afraid that it just doesn't live up to the price or the promises. After a few hours hold I could tell that the gel was failing and beginning to turn to powder.
I thought it was too good to be true and unfortunately it was. I'll not be buying the Indestructible gel again, even if it is on BOGOF and there is nothing else on the shelves. So I'm sticking with my StudioLine Radical (glue!) as it has never let me down. I've never used a product that has managed to under perform so spectacularly after making such claims, still it's only hair gel!
Advantages: Long lasting results Disadvantages: Rock Hard Hair
Imagine what it would feel like sitting next to a hedgehog and occasionally it knocked you, I imagine it would feel exactly the same as my son's head brushing against me after use this new Indestructible Gel. His head literally felt like rock and I was rather concerned about how it would come out. Anyway back to a write up of this product. As usual I was conned into buying this for my boy (he is only 11). He has extremely thick hair and every extra-hard ... ...about one hour. After seeing an advert stating it would stay on whether you stood on your head, had a hat on or a hood he asked me to pick this up. I purchased it from a local chemist and it cost me £3.49 for a 150ml tube. Well we rubbed quite a bit into his dampish hair and began styling it in his spiky on top straight at the back style. Now bearing in mind my son's hair is around 1 1/2inches-2 long on top (thought I'd mention that because I can't ...

Advantages: good hold when the gel has set and few flakes Disadvantages: costs a bomb and doesn't do what it claims to do for the premium price
With much hype L'Oreal thrust upon the world Studioline Indestructible gel with the promise that even if you wore a helmet, hat or hood once removed the style would return. Basic promise = a gel that will remember your style. Given the hype you won't struggle to find it in most supermarkets and I paid £3.50 for a 150ml tube, nearly £2 more than I usually do for my generic gel.
I have short hair and like it to have a messy look on top without moving, ... ...normal routine would be to apply my normal gel after getting to work on my bike so my helmet wouldn't flatten the style. Giving this a shot was worth the price and I have to say after using it for a week I have gone back to my cheapo generic gel as it gives the same results.
First of all it takes ages to dry so I can't put my helmet on until it has completely set unless I want my hair plastered to my scalp. Secondly, even after letting it set completely ...

Advantages: firm hold, easy to wash out Disadvantages: shinny look, easy to apply too much
My hair is quite short and I like it to be spikey. Typically, I alternate between waxes and gels and use whatever I have in the bathroom, as I don't think there is much of a difference for my length of hair. Recently though I saw a television advert for L'oreals Indestructible gel and was quite impressed by the claims it made. It featured a breakdancer who was standing on his head and rubbing his hair back and forth across the floor whilst dancing. ... ...same afterwards as it was before; was this gel really indestructible? The next time i was shopping I bought a 150ml tube costing approximately £3.50, a reasonable price. The packaging was pretty snazzy, but I was just interested in whether it performed better than the products I already used. I have used the product a number of times now and I must say I am very impressed with it. It holds your hair in an extremely rigid position for hours on end ...
