However this year I decided to take the plunge. I'm hardly pale but thought I might as well see what all the fuss was about. The much loved Johnsons tinted moisturiser does nothing for me so I decided to go all out and buy some Loreal.

The first thing I noticed is that it really is a proper gel, it's like half set jelly. Not firm but fluid which makes it very easy to apply. I literally slapped it on like I do moisturiser after coming out of the shower. It dried really quickly, and left my skin scent free which was a relief as I hate the smell of tanners.
I noticed the results within a few hours and have to say I was really impressed. I looked tanned but not orange. I looked like I'd had a few days in the sun. It does come out dark but I used a lot so if you're fair follow the age old rule of layering and start off light.
Admittedly I couldn't be bothered to keep it up but I imagine if I did it would look great, it took about a week (with gentle towel drying!) before it came off properly which is good enough for me.
The only thing to watch is the bottle, it's a simple nossel like a shampoo bottle for example and it can be hard to control how much you use. On the whole it's a winner of a product, you get a fair bit for your cash and it's def the best high street tanner out there.
Advantages: Does not streak at all, non greasy, dries quickly, does not transfer, quick results. Disadvantages: Requires several applications for noticeable colour change (maybe not for everyone)
L'oreal say:
Fresh, non-sticky gel, natural-looking tan, even result, containing vitamin E, quick dry, smoothing effect, easy to apply, velvety touch. I can vouch for all of these. On the shelf, some may be put off by the rather glowing tangerine colour of the lid of the bottle. This does not inspire much confidence! However, appearances are deceiving and do not be put off by this as it is not the colour you'll achieve!
I have natural blond hair ... ...However, despite my legs and arms tanning easily, other areas are much harder to change colour and i do not want to damage my skin with over exposure to the sun. Therefore, i brave the dubious world of fake tan! For some reason, fake tan does not take to my skin brilliantly as i do not see much of a colour change (sometimes it is as though i haven't applied it all.) Over the years i have tried and tested many and this one is something that i have ...

Advantages: Very very even, gives a lovely colour and easy application! Disadvantages: Takes some time for it to be absorbed.
I have been using this tan for several years now and I recommend it to anyone! Application: Firstly I start by putting body butter on my feet and ankles, knees and elbows so they don't go bright orange. I don't like using rubber gloves with this tanning gel as I find it makes it more difficult for it to be thoroughly absorbed into the skin. What I do is I start at the bottom and work my way up, regularly washing my hands. I do one leg, wash my hands. ... ...and then the arms. After washing the hands at the end so I don't look like I have white gloves on I put a little of the product on some tissue and smooth it over the tops of my hands. Results: A natural even colour which is easy to intensify with just one more application. It does have the fake tan smell afterwards but its not as strong as some other fake tans I have used. The thing I also love about this product is that you can use it on your face ...

Advantages: colour, so natural! Disadvantages: absorption time..
This is a fantastic product! The colour is incredibly natural for summer time.
I wouldn't reccommend it to people with pale skin though, it's quite an obvious tan, even if it is natural colour.
The price is a bit over my budget, but for approx. £10 it is good value!
I used it for years, until I got fed up with waiting for it to dry...
In my experience, I had to stand around for an hour until it dried, but the colour was worth it!

Advantages: subtle, even, healthy glow Disadvantages: don't think the bottle will last very long
The only fake tan I had ever used was Johnson's Holiday Skin lotion, and whilst I liked the results it gives, you have to apply it pretty much every day to get noticeable results and maintain your tan. As I am too lazy to apply tanning lotion every day, when this bottle ran out I decided to try something a little stronger that would have a little more staying power. I had no idea where to start, not wanting to pay loads, but not wanting to cheap out and end up looking like a tangerine! Eventually I decided on L'OrealSublimeBronzeself-tanninggel, as I thought of L'Oreal as being quite a trustworthy brand. Also, the SublimeBronze range had 1/3 off at Boots, so I paid £7.32 for a 150ml bottle instead of £10.99. Another thing that attracted me to this product was the fact that it is suitable for use on face as well as body. Previous ...
Advantages: Works well, Smells ok Disadvantages: Packaging looks cheap, takes a while to dry
well knows sun care companies and cosmetics giants.
Creating a nation of bronzed gods and godesses is big business it seems.
One product that caught my eye was a self-tan in gel form. This looked like it might be easier to apply than traditional lotions and it had a third off the price so I was convinced!
The product in question was L'oreal Plenitude SublimeBronzeSelf-TanningGel. This is a new addition to the L'orealtanning range and claims to have the added benefit of smoothing the skin leaving it 'velvety soft' (which would be very weird when you consider the feel of velvet - if you skin suddenly starts feeling like that, I suggest you consult a doctor!)
Normally this product retails at £9.99 for 150ml, which may seem quite steep, but you only use a really small amount for each application so it does last. At the moment ...
Advantages: Easy to apply, smells good, fast results Disadvantages: Not perticularly 'natural' looking results
have decided that I shall never use this product again.
Having said all that, there are some good points regarding this product. It is easy to apply and you don?t need to use a lot of it to get results so it should last quite a while if you should choose to continue using it! It has a pleasant scent. It is only very slightly sticky/greasy, absorbed into the skin well and quick drying. It also makes the skin feel smooth as the Loreal claim.
