We all know about the harmful effects of the sun's damaging rays on our delicate skin. For those who need reminding, the sun has damaging effects on our skin. The sun's rays contains UVA rays which are capable of penetrating deep into the lower layers of the skin and they cause signs of premature ageing. Even when the sun isn't shining the rays are still there.
The rays also contain UVB rays which are the ones that can burn your skin if you don not wear sun lotion. Long term effects of these rays can lead to skin cancer.

But we all want a "healthy" looking tan so we don't look pale and ill. The fact is that a tan isn't healthy. It's the mark that the sun has damaged your skin. So to get a golden tan use a fake tan which has no long lasting damaging effects and looks just as good if you choose the right one. The right one for me has been L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze range.

The Sublime range is a range of tanning products that can be used on all types of skin from fair to dark and there are different products for face and for body. The tanning milk can be used all over the body.

All of their self tan products come in orange bottles or tubes so they are easy to spot on the shelves. The price of the tanning milk is £9.99 from boots. You can get cheaper self tanning products but I find that they leave unattractive orange marks on your elbows, wrists and ankles so it's best to spend a little more.
The self tan is a off white colour and does smell a little but isn't unpleasant.

Preparation
-----------------------
For a perfect self tan follow these directions. I find that using this method always gives me excellent results.

1. Exfoliation. Pay particular attention to rough, dry areas such as elbows, knees, tops of your feet, and hands. You can use any type of body scrub for this.

2. Moisturise. Use any moisturiser to moisturise your skin especially the rough parts like elbows and ankles.

3. To apply the self tan start at the bottom of your body and work upwards. When applying to the legs apply the self tan in an upwards direction so you will be going against the growth of any hair.

4. Don't do your knee just yet.

5. Do your thigh's the same way as the lower legs.

6. For your knee and feet apply self tan with the residue that is left on your hands. These area's don't need as much self tan.

7. Carry on applying the self tan to the upper body and carry on work upwards.

8. For arms, section them off avoiding your elbows the same way you did for your knees. At the very last moment use the leftovers to brush over each elbow.

9. I always get someone to do my back for me. If you can get away with it, just do your shoulders.

10. Re-apply the moisturiser over the knees, elbows, and the tops of your feet, to water the tanning cream down. This prevents any orange marks.

11. Face. Apply the self tan over the top of your moisturiser. Be careful of hair and jaw line that you blend in well.

12. Wash your hands really well as otherwise you will end up with orange hands as your hands have more pores than anywhere else on your body.

13. to apply fake tan to your hands, get a cotton wool pad and use that to apply the self tan. Use the moisturising lotion afterwards.

The Sublime bronze milk takes about 15 minutes to dry so you won't have to stand in a drying position for very long. After it has dried you can get dressed again. The self tan does smell a little but it's not a bad as some others that I have used. If you use the instructions you will not get orange marks and the Sublime range has been designed to not give you the streaky effect.
I always get a really nice colour from using this Sublime self tan and people always ask me if I have been on a sun bed or been on holiday! I have had a few disasters when applying self tan but not when I use this milk.

The tan develops within an hour and continues to colour for hours afterwards. I get in the shower the next day and wash off the residue but not with a flannel or puff as this will take off your tan!

The tan lasts for about 5 days and after that looks patchy. To get rid of the patches use a body scrub and it comes off ready for you next application.

The only down point I have about this tanning milk is that it is not easy to see where you have applied it so you have to be quite methodical when applying it. There are other coloured self tans which make it easier to see what you're doing.

I've just applied some of this and am nervously awaiting the results... thought I'd check out some reviews about it (might have been more sensible to do that beforehand huh?!) but I did everything you mentioned in your review so fingers crossed it'll be a success!
