Well it seems from the other reviews, that people aren't really aware of what this product is supposed to do. If you go from dark to light, there is going to be a mid-way colour which this hairdye can bring out. But the purpose of this product is to remove alot of your old (darker) colour. This would be much more effective if you have never dyed your hair, but if you have previously dyed you hair dark brown or (especially) black, you are certain to have a orange colour as a result of this product. This is however NOT a bad thing.
I have used this product many times on my friend and i would recommend it much more than going to the salon. I was too scared to bleach my own hair so i went to a really good salon. I paid $120 for my first session when my hairdresser did a full head of streaks and in a couple of days they seemed to fade and my whole hair was pretty much brown again. I was very disappointed, so 3 weeks later I went back to try out the hairdressers again. This time she did more streaks over the previous ones as well as my dark brown hair. The result was 3 different colours in my hair and because she didnt bleach the roots of the streaks it ended up looking like I ALREADY had re-growth! After the second salon trip (which again cost $120) i was very disppointed and the majority of my hair was brown and i had tacky blonde streaks.
After this experience i decided to never trust the hairdressers again. In the salon it looked great but in natural light it looked like a miss-matched mess! I dyed a blonde colour over the top to get rid of the tacky blonde colour and now i am planning to use loreal super blonde prelightener for my hair after i have given it a break from the salon dye. I wish i used this product before wasting all my money at the hairdressers because my friend's hair turned out perfect all the time. here are some easy to understand tips for this product:
1. Before you decided to dye you hair consider whether you have the time to keep up with the demands of having blonde hair. This means you would have to dye your re-growth every 3-4 weeks to keep it looking fresh. You will also need to treat your hair at least every week with a protein treatment because each time you bleach it, protein is removed, this will keep it soft and healthy. Also a purple toning treatment either from the salon, or bought from a store will have to be used (especially if you don't use a purple shampoo and conditioner) every so often to keep the colour looking natural. Purple products are good for blonde hair because it counter-acts tacky looking yellow and gold tones in the hair. So a purple shampoo & conditioner is recommended.
2. get a friend to dye your hair for you because it's difficult to see where you have bleached it yourself.
3. Buy another dye to colour over the prelightener. The prelightener is just a bleach to get you to your starting point, that's why the results do not look natural. Your next step is to dye a colour over that you want for the final result. It is best if you use a protective cream colour like loreal excellence. Check the box to make sure that your prelightened base colour will be suitable for your 2nd colour.
3. Separate your hair into 2 horizontal sections (or three if you have very thick/long hair) before dyeing it. Dye the bottom section first because the bottom is the darkest part of the hair. Read the instructions carefully, and if you want to make sure your hair will end up the right base colour after the bleach, do a strand test beforehand.
4. Use 2 sachets of the blonde powder if you have naturally or previously dyed your hair a dark colour, use only one if you are afraid of damaging your natural or coloured light hair.
5. Buy 2 packets of the hairdye if you have very long/thick hair if you know it will be difficult to spread all the mixture. If you only use one on long or thick hair you will have a patchy and miss-matching result!!!
6. NEVER use 2 prelightener dyes within 3 weeks unless you are only using it on your re-growth. If you do your hair will become dry and brittle.
This is how I acheived great results with my friend's hair:
she had naturally dark brown hair with regrowth on the dark blonde colour i dyed it last time. Starting at the back of the hair, I spread the bleach all over the roots covering all the dark brown, leaving the dark blonde parts because she didn't want the blonde to be any lighter.
I read the instructions and decided close to the maximum time limit because her hair was really dark. After the time was up, the dark brown hair had changed to light blonde with some orange tones, but that was expected. Next i applied a box of loreal excellence in dark blonde from the roots to the tips.
After the development time and it was washed out and dried, the results were amazing. It looked completely natural and it was a gorgeous colour result. I was super proud of my work and my friend loved it. Later on i wanted to have blonde hair but i was too scared to do it myself so i went to the salon, which brings it back to the start of the story. I wish i had done it myself from the beginning! i would definately recommend buying this product because it is so much more affordable than getting it done at the salon and it gives much more satisfying results (if used properly).
Advantages: none, it ruined my hair! Disadvantages: everything about it.
...overcome this. It is called L'oreal Super Blonde Prelightener.

Advantages: Cheap compared to £40 + at salons Disadvantages: Unpredictable results, Instructions need improvement
...face to face with a l'oreal superblonde pre-lightener kit...AND a lovely 'champagne' blonde dye to complete the 'look' I wanted.
I mixed the kit together. It contained a developer and 2 sachets of lightener, gloves and conditioner. You were left to decide as per your hair colour before use (very dark = 2 sachets, light = 1) how many sachets to use, I used 2....The instructions were easy to follow, rather like other hair dye kits....and there were ... ...!!!......
ANOTHER PACK OF L'OREAL SUPERBLONDE PRE-LIGHTENER (I know I thought I must be mad as well), and another pack of the 'Champagne' blonde colour. I was hesitant to say the least but figured that I had nothing to loose by giving it a go (well apart from all my hair but by then being bald seemed preferable lol)...This time we rinsed it off ONLY when I was ABSOLUTLEY sure that there were no reddish bits left in. Even then we missed a patch and ...

Advantages: removes even black hair dye well, and leaves your hair in good condition Disadvantages: will most certainly turn your hair coppery ( unless fair haired to start with)
I was sick of my dyed black hair ( naturally very dark brown) and decided to remove it to dye it a lighter colour. After 2 rather failed attempt to dye my hair blue black , after it had already been coloured with permanent black, i decided i wasent wiling to keep letting the black dye build up before it looked blue. Even though everyone loved it and thought it looked so good , even my hairdreser had a go at me not to do it, and my sister hid the ... ...to do :L
So i did it anyway, because i was just so bored of the black. I bought the prelightener ( cost around £6, not too bad for a home colour stripper) and studied the instructions.
If i wanted to get my hair sufficently enough to dye it over, i would have to use two sackets of activator powder that came in the box ( the box contained the developer, two sackets of activator powder ( you can choose your strenth- one sacket for lightening fair ...

Advantages: Removes black hair colour Disadvantages: Turns hair orange
...remove it i would recomned L'Oreal super blonde prelightener , but on the instructions it says to apply it to the roots first, i wouldnt advise doing this because your natural colour will lift alot quicker than where your hair has been colourd.
I did this the other way round, so i put it on the ends first and then the roots last.
In total i had the product on for about 40 mins.
My hair was quite dry afterwards, so i put the conditioner on that ...

Quick review of L'Oreal Super Blonde Prelightener
I recently experienced a very severe hair disater! I dyed my short brown hair purple which turned out very wrong and look awful. So after some thought i decided to remove the colour so that i could put a natural looking blonde hair dye on top. I used 3 of these pre-lightners which eventually stripped the hideous purple out my hair. I would recommend this product as it was very effective at removing the hair dye without causing to much damage. ...
