I decided it was time for a change. I have been a dark copper brown for about six months now, and decided I wanted to dye my hair to a lighter colour. The problem with this is, a lighter colour wont work over a darker colour. I found a product, while out and about that is designed to overcome this. It is called L'oreal Super Blonde Prelightener.
******************PRODUCT DESCRIPTION*****************This product has two purposes. These are:
To prelighten your naturally dark hair, before you apply a lighter shade.
To remove an old colour, before re dying with a lighter shade.
**********************WHAT YOU GET********************Inside the box is everything you need. It is all nicely packaged and everything is clearly labelled. Inside the box you will find:
One applicator bottle containing 120ml of developer creme
In
the end I needed two bottles of this product, so I had to go back into town to buy another one. The first one I bought from Body care the second one from Boots. I had to buy the second one from Boots as Bodycare didn't have anymore in stock.
Before you can apply this product it has to be mixed. The instruction sheet that you get is very self explanitary, but here is a quick run down.
Put on the gloves
Pour the booster sachets into the applicator bottle
Empty the tube of preligtener creme into the applicator bottle
Screw the lid on and shake well
Cut the top of the spout on the applicator bottle and apply evenly to the hair
******************DIRECTIONS OF USE*******************
This product should be applied to dry, unwashed hair. It should be applied as evenly as possible making sure it gives full head coverage. Start at the roots and work your way down, massaging it into you hair. Leave the product on for 20 to 30minutes, depending on the look you want and then wash off. Towel dry your hair and then apply the conditioner. Leave this on your hair for about five minutes and rinse until the water runs clear. Dry and style as you would normally.
This is where you all get to have a laugh at my expense. I followed the instructions properly but wait for it....I had bright ORANGE hair.
The product worked as a prelightener, but it had mixed with the previous colour and had reduced my dark copper brown to a sunset orange. My boyfriend doesn't really like it when I dye my hair, so I was sure he was going to have a duck fit when he saw it. What did I do? I got dressed, put a hat on my head and went into town to buy another of the same product. I guessed that if it could reduce the colour to orange it could reduce it again, to a lighter brown.
I rushed home after buying another one and applied it straight away. What happened? Well you see the colour of my community dot, that was the colour of my hair. No kidding. I dried my hair and styled as normal and pretended that nothing was wrong. My boyfriend looked at my hair and said "huh". Not impressed!
I was quite upset. I hadn't had a disaster like this since being about 15 years old, when I didn't really care anyway, but now I was quite bothered. I was in the middle of job interviews and this was not the colour I wanted when looking for another job. The kids thought it was highly amusing though.
What did I do? I went back into town and bought another dye, a different one this time and rushed home to apply it. Unfortunately for me, the result isn't much better. My hair is a light brown/blonde/ginger now, but it is not what I want.
**********************MY OPINION**********************This product has not only left me with funny coloured hair it has also left me with:
Uneven colour
Marks on my scalp
Dry. brittle hair
Lifeless hair
My hair is perfectly straight now and has no life to it at all, it is very dry and brittle, meaning that everytime I run a brush through it, it breaks off or comes out in hand fulls. It has lost all it's shine aswell leaving it looking dull and unwashed! If you were to use this product on your natural hair colour it would work as a bleach and reduce you to a blonde for re colouring, but using it as a remover was a big mistake. Why couldn't I just be happy with the colour I had before. What I have ended up with looks an absolute mess and I will have to wear a hat everytime I leave the house.
Why don't I apply another dye to cover it? My head hurts. The prelightener has damaged my scalp leaving me with little burn marks. It hurts just to run a brush through my hair, my head is that tender. I daren't apply another dye as I am scared of what might happen.
I do not recommend this product to anyone. For me it was a disaster and I am use to using hair dyes and like to think I know what I'm doing. This product is the worst product I have ever used and I certainly wont be using it again.
If anyone wants to use this product after reading this, I can tell you that it is easy to mix and easy to apply, but it stings like hell when it is on your head. It is recommended that you do a strand and skin test before you apply this product and I strongly recommend that you do. I did a strand test but not a skin test. My strand test worked well, leaving my hair cutting in a bleached blonde colour as a base for another colour, but when I applied it to my full head of hair it was a disaster.
I strongly recommend that you give this product a wide berth, or approach with caution. You have been warned. My hair looks like Worzel Gummage's hair. A complete and utter mess.
Just incase any of you are wondering, my hair is now a light brown. I left my hair alone for about a week and a half and then applied another dye. Disaster over! Phew!

God these prelighteners are so hit or miss arent they. I went brown once and used the two booster packets instead of just one to lighten it. Had to go to the salon to fix it coz my hair was like white! x

i agree only wish i saw your review before using this terrible product
Advantages: removes even black hair dye well, and leaves your hair in good condition Disadvantages: will most certainly turn your hair coppery ( unless fair haired to start with)
