Background ~~~~~~~ I do not get the opportunity to wear what I call “Full make-up” ie foundation, eye shadow, blusher the full works…….. As my social life is limited these days. But this is not a complaint, as I love my life.
But not to digress here, I was invited out to a girly night out in December and I came to use my old foundation (not used in 2 years) only to find that a: 1) My skin colour had changed I am now much paler and I felt over made, and like a Red Indian…. 2) The foundation had begun to separate and did not perform very well.
I ended up rubbing excess off, applying lots of power and making do…
My Mission ~~~~~~ For the New Year I made it my mission to find a foundation that would:-
1) Look natural and flawless 2) Feel good on the skin 3) Be the right colour and texture for my skin tone 4) Last while worn 5) Be within my budget (I had accumulated £15.00 on my Boots card and this was my treat)…
So armed with both glossy and weekly magazines I reviewed articles and adverts and selected the following for my personal consideration……
The Selection *********** 1) Boots No& intelligent Colour Foundation New Price £12.00
…..Advertised as Simple Foundation, whatever your make Up. No more guesswork, experiments, or expensive mistakes.
Decide if you are Light (shows a pale complexion), Medium (shows a slightly tanned complexion), dark (shows a dark coloured complexion). Blends perfectly with your own skin tone a sheer veil of natural-looking colour.
2) Maybelline Everfresh Makeup Foundation New Price at Boots £6.95 (Boots had a special offer early January 2003 of £2.00 off making price £4.95)
Stays put Day to Night, transfer resistant, provides a fresh just applied look, SPF 14 sunscreen, oil free will not clog pores in 9 shades Buff, Natural Beige, Soft Cameo, Ivory, Mocha, Golden, Sand, Cocoa and Tan.
3) Marks & Spencer’s Perfect Complexion Foundation priced at £10.00
This was reviewed in a best buy section in a magazine but it did not really give a description, other than shades that should easily match your complexion whatever the colour?
4) Lumene at House of Fraser (£10 for 30ml)
Reviewed as: - A new skin supporter Makeup conditions and moisturises, but managers to be ultra-light.
5) Estee Lauder So Ingenious Multi-Dimension Make-up
Spf8, Priced at £19.50 for 30ml in 13 shades.
Reveiwed as:- This has the most exceptional spreading and blending abilities which flatters the skin in any light, chromatic chameleon-like particles. It gives natural finish, whether you wear it thinly in some places or more heavily in others, yet never cakes under eyes or looks crepey.
Putting Them to The test ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have first reviewed them in number order and will then give my final decision last:-
1) Boots No 7
Colour options:- Beware as the colours are much darker in the bottle than expected.
If you have a pale complexion like me even the lightest shade is much too dark.
Verdict - NO
2) Maybelline Everfresh
I opted for Buff in the store but only tired a little sample of colour on my face near my jaw line. However, when I tried full-face at home, colour was much too dark, the foundation felt powerdery in texture, did not like feel on my skin, and felt did not glide as smoothly as expected.
Verdict – This was my first foundation mistake (One for the bin) NO
3) Marks & Spencer’s Foundation
Once again even the lightest shade was not pale enough for me I was disappointed with the colour selections available. This was enough to pass this product.
Verdict – NO
4) Lumene – House of Fraser
Verdict – NO (1) No store nearby
5) Estee lauder – Although product sounded fantastic in description way out of my price range I am afraid.
Verdict – Too expensive – NO** TIP **
After my failed attempt to try colour on my skin I came to the following conclusion:-
When trying foundation I recommend you:-
1) Do not test on back of hand as skin colour is not same as your face – Always select jaw line.
2) Wear no foundation that day and take along a pack of baby wipes. - so you can test a number of colours all over ½ of face.
3) Make sure you have time to browse and look at all options.
4) If possible take own mirror
- I was most disappointed with Boots as out of 8 displays for make up I could only find 1 tiny mirror that you had to double over in two to view.
My Wonderful Find ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was just about to give up on my search for foundation when I decided to look at the stands in Boots, read the description and make sure I tested the colour all over (see my tip above)…..
L’Oreal (Paris) Translucide Healthy Glow Make-up ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Price £8.99 (Boots had special promotion £3.00 off beginning January 2003) so bought at £5.99…… (30ml)
- light-reflecting micro-powders, evens out skin tone for a healthy-looking, shine-free finish - Vitamin C - UV filter SPF12
I tried 2 shades and was wonderfully excited about the colour ways available. I opted for 15 Light Beige and found that this was the perfect match straight away.
Colours – A great selection from very pale to darker skins 10/10
Feels – A wonderful soft textured which smoothed out evenly and effortlessly over the skin. 10/10
Bottle - A nice little hand held design, with a pump action top which is not messy and easy to use (will fit snugly into make-up or handbag) and a cover over pump to protect bottle top. Nice design. 10/10
Use – this really did look natural and I hardly felt like I had anything on my skin it gave a wonderful even complexion and a brilliant base for my make-up to be applied. It did feel like a healthy glow. 10/10
Price – Even at full price I think this is a very good make-up and I will certainly purchase again in the future. 10/10
Lasting Effects – I was impressed as it did last all night without having to touch up and I just love it. 10/10
Spf12 Protection – Always a good bonus for me as it is important to protect skin from the sun.
Vitamin C – Nice to know it looks after your skin to
And well within my budget too :)
Nice and easy to remove too - your skin still feels good underneath 10/10
Overall Verdict 10/10 A real little gem I just love my new find. Thanks for reading and may this be useful to you in the future….
Advantages: Fairly cheap. SPF12. Light reflective. Good for oily skins Disadvantages: Much too drying
I have yet to find the perfect foundation and I have searched for YEARS!! What with my extremely pale skin, almost all brands of foundation are way too dark for me. Plus I have annoyingly dry and flaky skin (never used to until I got M.E). I tell a lie, once I did find a foundation that was almost the right colour and texture for my skin and it was by Avon, and as what normally happens, they went and discontinued it!!!
So my search continues….
... ...across this one. I’ve tried a L’Oreal one before and the colour was perfect though it left me looking a little chalky. This was 7yrs ago and what with all the new technology around, I thought they would have improved their formulations.
This one comes in a dinky little bottle (30ml) and costs £8.99 (depending on where you buy it). As a qualified beauty therapist, I know it’s essential to get a great base, and then the rest of your ...

Advantages: Does its job like a pro. Disadvantages: Only medium coverage
...hurtful words.
I tried L'Oreal Translucide on a whim. I'd done Ideal balance, but I needed more. I was giving those frenchies a chance, because I'm a darling. It was only £8.99 and it was a lovely colour. I took the lightest as it was nearest to matching my face. I believe that is the done thing here, and I didn't want to rock the boat. There were no testers so I was taking a chance, but what is life for if you can't take up that caution and lob ... ...will experience the wonder of L'Oreal together. Look in your hand. No the left one. Ah. Now you see it. It's that foundation they're all talking about down at the community centre. Doesn't it look pretty? Look at that bottle, what a design, all curved and sophisticated. Like me wouldn't you say? Of course you would. See that clear plastic lid on the top (where else would a lid be)? Take it off and throw it. Yes, that's right. Why yes I suppose it ...

Advantages: Good drugstore foundation, beautiful finnish, buildable coverage Disadvantages: not enough colour selection, L'oreal tests on amimals
I bought this foundation about 4 months ago, and I have been continually impressed with the results. It is a liquid foundation with about medium coverage, and leaves a nice glowy finnish, without making your face look shiny. I have combiation skin, and this foundation worked really well for me. I do have to touch up with powder once through the day, but compared with a lot of other foundations, this is a lot less greasy. Translucide is also really ... ...build coverage, and it lasts the whole day. I wore this foundation when I went snowboarding for a week, and despite -20 temperatures, laughing, crying, and constantly wiping snow off my face, this foundation lasted through it all!
The only thing wrong with this foundation is the lack of colours. The first colour is light beige, which is too light, and the second colour is too dark, so I have to mix them. Apart from that , this foundation is one ...

Advantages: Glides on and blends very well giving very good coverage Disadvantages: Not moisturising enough for greasy skin
...However, I came across L'Oreal Translucide about 4 years ago and decided to give it a shot! I was very impressed with the result and I have been using this foundation to this day! I have very dry skin so I use Nivea moisturising creme as a base for this foundation. If you have greasy skin don't apply to much otherwise you'll end up looking too shiney!
I use the shade light beige which gives a good even coverage and doesn't give your face a pinky ... ...red blotches and minor scars beautifully. It feels very light and comfortable on the skin and defintiely gives the face a lovely glow. A little bit goes a long way and one 30ml bottle at £8.99 from Boots lasts me just over 2 months. You can use a pressed matte powder to dust over your face after applying this to reduce unwanted shine. It still gives a beautiful glowing finish. It's very easy to wash off. It's not waterproof , smudge proof or crease ...

Advantages: Good finish Disadvantages: Drying and thick
I am always buying new makeup to see if there is a better one out there. My latest adventure was with L'Oreals translucide foundation. Firstly i did choose a shade one too dark, completly my error. However the texture of this foundation was too cakey. I dont like to feel like i am wearing make up and you can get weighed down with this. As i got a too dark shade, i began to mix the foundation into a good moisturiser and that did help the product. ... ...I am prone to spots and have oily skin and this product was good and bad for my skin type. Good because it covered my spots nicely but poor as it just dried out my skin TOO much. Did work well once mixed with the moisturiser though.
Translucide claims 'it's the end to dull, lifeless make up' and it claims to give 'a healthy glow.' Which to be fair it does give the healthy glow look by being light reflecting, which is becoming popular for foundations. ...
