LaCie have obviously marketed this external drive at the people who want both a functional computer system and a good-looking one. The drive has been designed with F. A. Porsche and has a nice minimalist look to it, a metallic grey case with all most mirrored front the drive looks great, even better when stacked with another one. With only one LED on the front your not left with loads of bright lights flashing at you when your trying to keep the room dark when playing games or movies. The
drive is also very quiet to the point where you need to look at the light to ensure its still on.
LaCie have released the drive in a range of sizes with a range of connection such as USB and Firewire so whatever your need you should be able to find a drive to suit.
I personally purchased the 250GB as it was both the largest and best value for money at the time, no doubt as time goes on this will be superseded.
Two very minor issues with the drive are that it does scratch easily when its in a bag with the external power supply and bits. I've also experienced an issue with the rubber feet falling off and being lost. This is a bigger issue as without the feet it does make a lot of vibration noise through the desk and the feet are also part of the stacking mechanism. I have tried to contact LaCie through their website twice to ask for replacement feed and never had any feedback.
Those two small point aside a great drive for the money.
UPDATE:
Typical shouldn't have tempted fate by writing such a glowing review, drive has now developed an issue where by it corrupts all the data written to it (before I get any suggestions I work in IT and have tried repair / reformat etc). Lacie offered very little support aside an automated reply email with a link to some firmware upgrade software that killed my laptop. They tell me to contact my retailer which in this case was DABS.COM (please see seperate review for DABS) so that is a dead end before I go anywhere.
WHY oh WHY can companies not offer a descent after sales service, they have your money and thats all the care about. dropping 2 stars from my review for this point alone.
