I have owned this external hard drive for over a year and have found it to be an extremely reliable product. It has a 500GB capacity, which is more than enough for most people, and I also picked it up for a relatively low price, compared to other drives of a similar capacity on the market. It is a fairly large drive, and requires its own power supply, so it is definitely not a portable device. However, as a secondary drive to your desktop pc, it is more than capable, as it has reasonably fast transfer speeds. It is also pretty durable, as mine has fallen off of its desk more than once while running, and still works as good as new. It is extremely quick and easy to set up, taking a matter of seconds once the wires are all in place. Finally LaCie worthed the price

Advantages: complete connection ports for easy use, Windows & Mac compatible
Disadvantages: fanless, may be a heat issue

From my personal opinion, the very first word that will pop up from your head if you heard LaCie... Overpriced.. I mean seriously, what does this brand offer compared to other competitors.. But I got to admit, this Quadra HDD is quite a great offer..!! Features Quadra is for Four connectivity that this device have. 1. firewire 400 2. Firewire 800, 3. eSata, 4. USB 2.0. Each port has its own advantages and disadvantages. It depends on the files you are transfering (size and how many files). LaCie D2 Quadra is a fanless vertical upright enclosure, so definitely a quiet external Hard Drive. So the cooling of the HDD really depends on the aluminum casing. LaCie 1 TB Big Disk Hard Drive

Advantages: Capacity, looks, decent manual, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit slow, a lot to lose in one go

With people starting to amass more and more data on their PCs, the old methods of backup such as tape or CD & DVD are becoming woefully inadequate. As a result, by far the most cost efficient method for either storing data or backing it up is the external hard drive. That said, 1TB or 1 Terrabyte is a crazy amount of space and the sort of storage that would have kept a multinational company ticking over nicely ten years ago. The LaCie (pronounced Lassie, like the dog) 1TB unit is a reasonably basic device that only has a USB2 (although USB1 is supported) interface and comes with a suitable lead, external power supply and software CD. It can work with both PCs and Macs although by default it's formatted for PC use so Mac users will need to reformat it first but that's no hardship really.
