Advantages: Fast transfer speed, protection from knocks and drops
Disadvantages: Fairly high price

...they have less than what they state. For e.g. a 320 GB hard-drive will have about 290 GB, which is quite a chunk away from the stated amount. So, looking at the LaCie external hard-drive you will be looking at a memory capacity of 230-240 GB, which in this case is not a large chunk, but is still considerable. There is no known reason why all hard-drives (including the LaCie) have less memory than stated, it may be due to the internal disk within the outer case not being able to hold the stated amount or it may be that company's want to make a profit out of its customers. No on really knows. If you don't believe me about the memory capacity of a hard drive being less than stated, you can yourself check your hard-drives capacity by going into 'My Computer' and then right clicking the computer hard-drive icon and going into its properties... ...We bought our Porsche-designed LaCie external hard drive around two months ago, essentially to use as a back-up storage device - my other half and I run a graphic design studio so have lots of big files that need to be kept somewhere that's easy access. Although it's kind of important to us to have something that's good to look at, the most important thing really was price per GB of available back-up space - and this little beauty didn't disappoint! I think we paid around £80 or thereabouts for it which, for an external drive isn't bad anyway, but when it's as well-designed (ie. it looks good and is pretty lightweight too so easy to transport) as this one, I think it's a really good buy. ...LaCie have obviously marketed this external drive at the people who want both a functional computer system and a good-looking one. The drive has been designed with F. A. Porsche and has a nice minimalist look to it, a metallic grey case with all most mirrored front the drive looks great, even better when stacked with another one. With only one LED on the front your not left with loads of bright lights flashing at you when your trying to keep the room dark when playing games or movies. The drive is also very quiet to the point where you need to look at the light to ensure its still on. LaCie have released the drive in a range of sizes with a range of connection such as USB and Firewire so whatever your need you should be able to find a drive to suit. I personally purchased the 250GB as it was both the largest and best value... Read review
