Advantages: Good Looking, Robust Disadvantages: Scratch Easily, Heavy
External HardDrives need to be portable, reliable, no-fuss, and styled by car designers.
Ok, the latter is untrue, but maybe all hard disks should! I'd sure like to see a Morris Minor portable solution, or a Robin Reliant mobilehard disk.
Jokes aside, the unit IS rather attractive. Its housing is rather svelt and sleek, blending in subtley with your computing array. After purchasing various Mac products throughout the academic year 05/06, the brushed alumium looks great up against a G5 or a PowerBook. Please don't put me down as some computer-fashion authority though, it was simply the best FireWire-interfaced drive I could afford on a stringent budget of £65 back in September 05!
The drive has four rubber feet that keep the housing protected from surface scratches, or should I say "had". After only a few days, two ...
Advantages: It works fine, looks great and is a good price. Disadvantages: None.
We bought our Porsche-designedLaCie external harddrive around two months ago, essentially to use as a back-up storage device - my other half and I run a graphic design studio so have lots of big files that need to be kept somewhere that's easy access.
Although it's kind of important to us to have something that's good to look at, the most important thing really was price per GB of available back-up space - and this little beauty didn't disappoint! I think we paid around £80 or thereabouts for it which, for an external drive isn't bad anyway, but when it's as well-designed (ie. it looks good and is pretty lightweight too so easy to transport) as this one, I think it's a really good buy.
We do a fair bit of backing up, and subsequently transferring onto DVDs and have had to reformat the drive after removing a load of files to give ...
Advantages: looks nice, works fine and i havent broken it yet! Disadvantages: on/off button a little fiddly, short usb cable (can be extended)

Update.
I didn't know we got reviewed or whatever on these and apparently I ain't good enough =P
I was just letting people know it's robust, because i always look for that in reviews and nobody ever mentions it.
ok so......point by point....
Memory/Capacity - is obviously nearly what it says it is. It has about as much missing as any other harddrive of the same size.
Reliability - I've had it nearly a year and it still works. If you knew me, you'd know how much that means. It's taken more knocks and bumps than you can shake a stick at.
Design - I put as excellent because although it's essentially a silver brick and there's way too much emphasis put on the design of it, i don't think it looks bad. plus it's practical, it fits in small spaces and can be stacked and turned up whatever way you want it. some people may have issues ...
