External Hard Drives need to be portable, reliable, no-fuss, and styled by car designers. Ok, the latter is untrue, but maybe all hard disks should! I'd sure like to see a Morris Minor portable solution, or a Robin Reliant mobile hard disk. Jokes aside, the unit IS rather attractive. Its housing is rather svelt and sleek, blending in subtley with your computing array. After purchasing various Mac products throughout the academic year 05/06, the brushed alumium looks great up against a G5 or a PowerBook. Please don't put me down as some computer-fashion authority though, it was simply the best FireWire-interfaced drive I could afford on a stringent budget of £65 back in September 05! Review of LaCie Mobile Hard Drive Design by F.A. Porsche FireWire and USB 2.0 80 GB

Designer drive

Advantages: It works fine, looks great and is a good price.
Disadvantages: None.

We bought our Porsche-designed LaCie external hard drive around two months ago, essentially to use as a back-up storage device - my other half and I run a graphic design studio so have lots of big files that need to be kept somewhere that's easy access. Although it's kind of important to us to have something that's good to look at, the most important thing really was price per GB of available back-up space - and this little beauty didn't disappoint! I think we paid around £80 or thereabouts for it which, for an external drive isn't bad anyway, but when it's as well-designed (ie. it looks good and is pretty lightweight too so easy to transport) as this one, I think it's a really good buy. This USB Power Adapter is a must accessory to have if you have any kinds of iPods. As you would know, when you buy an iPod, you will only receive the iPod itself and the link cable. This means the only way you can charge the iPod is through the computer. However, this is disadvantage for many reasons since you would need to make sure the computer is on when charging. Because its USB charged, it takes quite a long time to charge it to full. This USB Power Adapter deals with all of the charging problems and many others.
