...The LaCieDVD+/-RW Double Layer Drive USB 2.0 is a very reliable and strongly built machine. I've had it for a few months now and it hasnt let me down yet. I use it weekly to back up my photography files onto dvd and various other documents and it does the job perfectly.
Ok, its no speed demon, it took a good 1/2 hour to burn footage of my 1 year old nephew through iDVD but it got the job done and as long as you have the time, its no problem at all. A kool feature is that its basically a 4 in 1 drive. It'll read cd's, write cd's, read dvd's and burn dvd's. The cd thing isnt so great now as most computers come with cd readers and writers built in but its handy to have any way.

Advantages: Fast transfer speed, protection from knocks and drops Disadvantages: Fairly high price
...The LaCie Rugged All-Terrain External 250 hard-drive is a portable storage device which will allow you to store 250gb of multimedia files such as pictures, music and video. You will obviously also be able to hold documents and other files as well (e.g. software installations).

You could always opt to just carrying it around in your hand, which is not very practical in everyday life.
All external and internal hard-drives state a certain amount of memory capacity, but in fact...

Free Software: Roxio Suite, WinDVD Player
Speeds: 4x Typical for DVD, 32x Typical for CDs

Installation:
The installation was very simple under Windows XP, I managed to get the drive working with Nero, Windows and all my dvd burning software very quickly.
Reliability:
Every CD and DVD i have burnt has worked perfectly. The cds can be read much faster and rarely fail, even after using in over 120 pcs one after another. This writer burns much more professionally than other writers i have.
Portability:
None, this thing is heavier than a brick, don't even consider carrying it anywhere. I think it's ideal if you've got more than one pc at home (or in the office...
