...by side shows that they are virtually identical in every respect, except of course for the name decals on the headstocks. On the down side, these guitars are fitted with a pickup system that seems less than desirable for instruments of this reputation. The neck and bridge pickups produce a shallow, stringy sound that does not do the guitar justice at all. A couple of the tuners have started to loosen up after a couple of years of re-stringing and have ended up weak enough to spin around with a fingernail-flick. These are the only 2 complaints I have with the guitar and is probably as critical as I can get, but it also leaves room and motivation for the more experienced to soup it up. Advantages: Price to quality ratio, style! Disadvantages: finish quality
...for that. It is basically the same guitar as the USA model, with standard fender parts, but bolted together a few miles over the border at the mex factory. Virtually the same guitar, but for less money. (to be fair there are some differences, I think the wood the body is made of is different).
Anyway, sound wise, I think it sounds great. It can play both jangly 60;s style, or can crank up wonderfully for a bit of gritty rock a la Bruce Springsteen. The guitar is very upgradeable, so should I get fed up with the standard stock Fender parts, i can go for better ones with ease.
Only slight niggle is the finish, which is very slightly rough round the edges. The fingerboard for example has some woodgrain on it, that although real and natural, looks like the neck is marked. Doesnt affect the playability one bit, but I suspect the USA tele...
