Let's just get one thing straight right away, ok? I'm not American, I'm not called Joey or Chandler and I don't live beyond my means in an unfeasibly large apartment in New York.
Nor am I overweight, a slouch, a dosser, doley or any sort of degenerate lay about. I am definitely not and without any argument, a Lazy Boy!
I'm not a couch potato or an armchair sports fan either but I have always fancied a reclining chair. They just seem most decadent. The top of the line and the name synonymous with luxury recliners is La-Z-Boy. The top of their range must be the 'Cool' chair. They are just about the ultimate in comfort and pampering.

Let me set the scene…. You've had a hard day at work, struggled through rush hour traffic and finally made it back to your own little safe haven, your oasis of calm in a mad mad world. You walk in, shrug off your coat and kick off your shoes and walk into your lounge. There it is….waiting patiently for you….

"This is good" you think, as you stretch into the near horizontal "but where is my nice cool beverage?" Lift the left armrest to find a double cup holder and a thermo-electric cooler which will hold 6 of your favorite drink cans.
"So, I've got my feet up, and a beer in my fist, what could be better?"… How about a phone to order pizza to accompany your beer, or invite your mates round, or just to call them to say 'Whaassup?' Well, lift the right armrest and voila! A built in phone!
Next to the phone is room for a couple of other remote controls and also the controller for the massage and heating function…. Oh yes, did I mention the massager? Press a couple of buttons and it rumbles into life to begin soothing away those aches and pains. Everybody repeat after me…… "Aaaaaah!"

These chairs have, for a long time, been priced around the 1000GBP mark and as such have been out of my price range. Just for fun I had entered a search on EBay and one day I saw a brand new chair on sale for 500GBP. I watched it for a few days and no bids were made so I contacted the owner and asked him a few questions as to the condition and reasons for the sale. Once I had satisfied myself that the sale was legitimate I placed a bid for 500GBP fully expecting to be beaten. I wasn't and the chair was mine. It's still a lot of money but trust me, it really is worth it!

I rented a van to go and pick it up but actually as the chair is in 2 pieces I could have got it in the back of my estate car with no problems. Assembly was simple. The back piece slots into the base and the 2 electrical units plug in around the back of the base. The chair was operational in less than 10 minutes. There are 2 electrical units to power the massaging / heating feature and the cool box. The actual recline feature is operated by a solid wooden handle on the right side of the base. Thanks to the clever La-Z-Boy mechanism the base moves forward as you recline, needing just 10cm of space behind the chair, even when fully reclined. There is also a self adjusting lumbar support and 3 footrest positions for the ultimate in comfort.

The only real niggle I have is with the power and phone leads. I have positioned my chair in the middle of my lounge (the location of doors and other larger furniture makes this the only place possible for it) and as such I have had to run the leads across the floor to their respective sockets. I've had to cover them with rugs which is not ideal really but will do for now. I may investigate the possibility of changing the phone for a wireless version later on.

I have never been particularly attached to a piece of furniture before. I've had nice chairs and a comfortable sofa but nothing that I actually look forward to using. The La-Z-Boy Cool Chair has changed this. I look forward to using this almost as much as riding my bike or taking my TVR for a spin but don't get me wrong, I am not in danger of withering away from spending every single hour in this chair, eating, sleeping, drinking etc, but I do really think I will never be without one of these chairs for the rest of my life.
For several years I have been suffering with back problems and have tried many methods to gain relief. Normally this means I have to have deep tissue massage twice a week and hang from an inversion table for 15 minutes every other day or so. Whilst I can't claim that this chair has fixed my back problems, it has certainly helped alleviate them and as such has improved my quality of life along with providing a little bit of luxury and pampering in my poor woe-begotten existence.
