Being an online gamer i decided to go out and purchase a headphone set so i could talk in person to my fellow gamers instead of typing into the games chat all the time (which often resulted in me letting my team down as i would get shot whilst typing)
The main criteria for my purchase was...
1. Needed to be hands free with a mic attached to the headset.
2. Needed to have a long enough cable to reach my sound card without being streched.
3. Needed to be cheap, i didnt want to pay silly prices for something i would only use 3 times a week!!.
Enter the Labtec axis 301, it is all of the above, it was simple to setup and came provided with a 2.4 metre cable which is ample for me.
The product also supports speech recognition although i havnt had the oppturnity to test the accuracy of this feature yet and a 1 years manufacture guarentee is included, oddly this headphone/mic set is ambidextrous, i guess that means you can have the mic on the left or the right, seems strange to me but im sure someone more atune to this type of product would understand its benefits better.
During testing i had no problems being heard and understood by my friends in the multiplayer games that i play, they all said i sounded clear with no crackle so as far as im concerned its done its job already and im very happy (as this was my sole reason for purchase).
Durability shouldnt pose any problems and i can say that as with most things as long as you're not throwing them around the room against walls or standing on them then theres no reason why this product should just fall apart in your hands, yes its plastic but most of these headsets are so thats not really a negative.
If you need a cheap headphone/mic then maybe take a look at the Labtec axis 301, i paid £8 for it and at that price i cannot argue, ive seen similar products at 3 times that amount.
