I compared:

I used to work in a warehouse that stocked these and all the other brands/models. I got bored one day and tried most of them out with my iPod to see which speakers were the best! I ended up with this Labtec Pulse 285 and here is why!

Don't be fooled by the 'seemingly' low 6 Watt figure. On paper 6 Watts may seem a bit weak next to the competitors but when tested among 5 other setups these speakers are very loud and even still very clear with volume at 100%. Don't get me wrong you can't start up your own nightclub with these but you get a lot more than you need for PC speakers! In reality the only difference you notice between the price ranges was the amount of bass being produced from the subwoofers. I do like my music and bass has to be there to give the full effect which is why I have a 1400 Watt subwoofer in my car. The most powerful PC/Laptop subwoofer i tested was only 20 Watts or so - not really worth arguing over!
The speakers look the part too in a very smart black with silver accents and the front of the smaller speakers being covered in cloth for better sound quality i assume. The construction seems very robust and it would take a very hard impact before these would show any sign of giving up on you. I'm sure these will last for many years. Also included is a volume control/power unit that is attached and sits in front of your monitor (or wherever you place it) so that it can be very easily accessed - everybody likes to be lazy sometimes...
Very easy to set up; a 3.5mm headphone style wire goes into the audio out (or headphone jack), while it is powered by a mains socket.
If you're on a budget and looking at cheaper speakers, take the step up to £17.99 for a very good buy. I have now had these for over half a year, used everyday and have no problems or concerns with them.
I bought this for £17.99 from Argos and, as with all electrical items, you get a 1 year warranty.
