With 20 minutes to spare on my lunch break in the local High Street, I thought I ought to utilise my time wisely. So I decided to pop in to Boots to shop for a new fragrance. It wasn't because I desperately needed a new fragrance, it was more of a case of being bored with the fragrances I own and in the mood to spend a bit of money on myself!

I went to the Boots fragrances counter to have a browse at what was on offer. Frustratingly, the testers had been kept behind the counter and the girl behind the counter was down the far end serving a lady who failed to grasp an understanding of the store's refund policy. I waited there patiently... and waited... and waited... and waited, and as I had decided enough was enough and was about to walk away, I noticed another assistant coming over to me. So I stayed and tried a few testers. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for and there was a huge selection to choose from! I managed to narrow my search criteria by deciding I would go for a new fragrance that I had not previously owned. The fragrance consultant tried to be as helpful as she could and recommended some fragrances to me. One of them was Lacoste, Style in Play Eau De Toilette. I had never heard of it before and had not tried any other Lacoste fragrances in the past, so was not sure what to expect. She suggested that I try the tester. By this time, my sense of smell was fused with all the other fragrances I’d tested and so I opted to spray the tester on to my left hand which had so far not been sprayed on.

One quick, sharp shoot of the spray. I waved my wrist in the air so that the fragrance would dry and settle on to my skin. It was then when I held my wrist up to my nose… here’s what I thought:

The fragrance-

Light, fresh and stimulating. It had a citrus/fruity burst that was invigorating and one that I instantly took a liking to. The more I smelt it, the more I liked it as it soaked in to my skin. It was one of those scents that I felt like I’d smelt before. On first impressions it smelt very much like Estee Lauder’s Paradise for Men, but not as strong as that.

The price-

Eau De Toilette Pour Homme 75ml £30.00
Eau De Toilette Pour Homme 125ml- £38.00

The packaging- The box is predominantly red with grey/silver shades around the top lining and the bottom of the box. The Lacoste brand name and infamous crocodile motif is printed across the top centre of the front of the box. It’s not innovative in any way, and would not grab attention from sitting on the shelf, apart, from possibly the red colour which may stand out.

The bottle itself is slightly more attractive. The glass bottle is tinted red, with a darker red tinting at the bottom of the bottle. The sides of the bottle look as though the bottle has been slightly squeezed from both sides, giving it a nice, slightly unusual edge. The sides have a ‘ribbed’ effect which gives it a fine firm grip. The Lacoste name and motif is again printed on the centre in white. The spray cover is a soft brushed metallic grey colour.

Needless to say I ended up purchasing this fragrance. I opted for the 75ml @ £30.00. In hindsight, the 125ml @ £38.00 would have been better value, as for £8 more I’d be getting 50ml’s extra.

What also swung my decision to go for this particular fragrance was when the fragrance consultant told me about the free shower gel or deodorant I was eligible for if I purchased this. RESULT! I opted for the shower gel, which was worth £15.00 alone if I were to buy it separately.

In conclusion, I would recommend purchasing this fragrance. It is a nice light summer fragrance that is not overpowering in any way and has relatively good lasting power. Again, if you can wrangle a good bargain like I did with getting the free shower gel, then it certainly makes the buy better value for money. The shower gel is a great supplement for this fragrance, and smells just as good as the Eau De Toilette itself.

Other Info:

There is a dedicated website for Lacoste fragrances. (I’m not sure I can post the link here- if you do a Google search, you’ll most certainly be able to find it) You may be able to still request a sample from the website too as the option was there when I had a browse.

Although I picked up a 75ml bottle from Boots for Eau De Toilette, you can probably find it much more cheaper by purchasing it from the internet.
