Avtovaz (or Vaz) 2109 or Lada Samara. These tough, rugged and "thick boned" cars were actually built in the city of Togliatti. An Italian name for a Russian city always intrigued me until I found out the city was named after some Italian communist leader. Anyhow back to the car: Yes, it is a Russian build. ...end of the day, the Lada Samara is not a Mercedes. You would not expect such a quality for a car at a price of some 5 - 6,000 Pounds. But when it comes to the price/performance ratio, the Lada Samara gives you more than you expect to get. If you are looking for cheap wheels, do not care for luxury, if you can afford simply giving it away after some 5 years (or trash it) and look for value for your money, go for it. Review of Lada Samara

Lada 110 and 112

Advantages: Cheap, reliable, long living, comfortable and excellent for long distances
Disadvantages: concerning the car none, but the service network is thin

...an extremely good experience with Lada cars having already had the "original" type 2101 right up to the present 110 / 112. My 110 with 8 valves is surprisingly economical, has a powerful engine, cruises comfortably at 170 km/h and is an excellent car for long journeys offering all the comfort I need. Basically the same applies for my 112 with 16 valves but in comparison I prefer the 8 valve engine for long distances because it is smoother and runs, ...

So what has changed ?

Advantages: Cheap as usual

What about Samara, is it good for you

Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: not very reliable

I wanted to write about Lada Samara, but suddenly I recognised that it is not one car. As far as I know Lada Samara - is the name of factory for cars. Samara Is city in Russia, when Lada is Brand (literal translation is ship). So lets talk about two kinds of Samara - Lada 08 and Lada 09 models.
