Lamiums are fully hardy perennials making excellent ground cover, although some varieties may be too vigorous for smaller gardens. Lamium maculatum varieties are most commonly planted, and are tolerant of all soil conditions. They will grow most rapidly in moist soils, but are also very good in difficult areas such as the dry root zones of overhanging trees. The variety Beacon Silver is one of the most popular, having a silver/green leaf variegation, and pink flowers. Few grow more than about 6" high, but each plant will spread to cover 3' or more.
