I'd seen this product in numerous magazines for a while. I'm always on the look out for a new (and better) fake tan and spend ages longing to be a summer, bronzed goddess. In the magazine this advert shows a lady lying down looking really tanned. This product promises to deliver a "quick and easy tan", similer to what's used it tanning booths as it has an airspray application. So off I went to Boots to pick up this product from the Lancome counter. The lady was very helpful, and I asked if the fake tan looked natural: "Yes, it mixes with the proteins in your skin to create a lovely natural tan." "Oh great," I thought. Now I realise that this was all just a marketing ploy. She also gave me some odd advice about being careful after spraying, and she didn't recomment using it on a tile floor as some of the excess would go and the floor leaving them sticky and like her I might go "flying". No problem I thought as my bathroom is carpet, so I'm safe there. How wrong I was-no I didn't fall but the result of this fake tan was far more dangerous!
~~~What Lancome say about this product!~~~ An Advanced Application: "A self-tanning multi-angle airbrush spray that can be used in any position and at any angle. It reaches every part of your body quickly, easily and evenly, including the backs of your legs and your back!"
~~~The packaging~~~ This product comes in a box, with instructions on the box. I find it quite annoying that there were no instructions on the can itself. The actual Airspray is in a metallic coppery coloured can, with a removable lid. It comes out in spray, which is quite thick (more than a light spray) and leaves you soaking. Even after rubbing it in, it is still evident and damp. It also contains a picture of the airpray and someone spraying their leg. The packaging is quite nice to be fair, and obvious that it is from a premium brand such as Lancome.
However I decided to use it. I sprayed it on my legs and it left them soaking so I had to rub it in (as recommended on the box). However I was disappointed with this because it sort of takes away the novelty of the airbrush by rubbing it in. Be warned that this spray doesn't dry for hours! I waited an hour before going to bed and then I watched tv sitting on top of the covers-to avoid the chance of it still not being dry and going streaky. Eventually I was really tired so decided just to go to sleep and hope for the best. I only did this on my legs to try it out-which was lucky as I could cover them up.
~~~The result~~~ The next morning I had the shock of my life!!! My legs were really brown-not really orange but a colour that I never go in the sun. If I'd been to Barbados for a year the colour might have come close, but as everyone knew I hadn't I decided to cover them up. I looked at my feet, and this is where the huge suprise came-they were ORANGE! and about 10 shades darker than my already dark legs. I scrubbed and scrubbed with a pumice stone and after a day of it still not fading I took drastic measures and dabd them with Nail polish remover, and as that didn't work I used bleach. But even this only faded them a tiny bit.
~~~How long did the results last?~~~ The tan lasted around a week, and was a lot longer lasting than most tans. With the result I had on the first few days I couldn't possibly have bared my part orange/part black legs. However one good point I found about this fake tan was the way that it faded nicely and didn't go patchy, unlike most other fake tans. Also the result I had after around 3 days was a nice, more natural but still dark looking tan. This only comes in one shade but I would recommend it more to those lucky ones of you that are already slightly dark or olive skin. However also note that althought I think I'm quite pale, I'd say I'm an average colour and not ghostly or "milk bottle" pale. I go mediumish brown in the sun and do tan, but am not tanned all year round (unfortunatly)!
~~~Where can I buy this product?~~~ Well if you still would like to give this a go, it is available from most department stores which sell Lancome, including House of Fraser, and Debenhams. It is also available in larger Boots stores for around £18. www.boots.com www.debenhams.com
Thanks for reading, Claire x x
P.S I have recently tried Clarins self tanning milk which I found really good. It's £14.50 from Boots/Debenhams.
Advantages: Can be used upside down Disadvantages: It hurts!!
There's no escaping the fact that I have white legs. Goths look upon my pale limbs with un-disguised envy so for a number of years I have been searching for THE perfect fake tan. I have tried them all, from my mums' late 80's versions (which bizarrely always came with a free pink towelling hair band), to tan towels, gels, sprays, creams, etc, but none have given me that genuine tan which I so crave. Whilst flicking through a magazine one evening ... ...Airbrush. The ad shows a tanned female and tells you how you can achieve the effects of a salon spray tan in your own home as the ultra-fine mist works at all angles, you can even do your back (hurrah). Having neither the time nor desire to stand starkers in a booth in a starfish shape whilst being sprayed with tan by a machine (or worse, another person), I thought Ooooo I must buy this!! I galloped to a department store after work the next day and ...
...and she brought along this Lancome flash tanning mousse, it was really great and quick to use, so I thought, hell..Ill treat myself. I found a cheaper deal on Cheapsmells.com for £12.95, but when it arrived I realised it wasnt the product I thought it was, but the airbrush one instead. Nevertheless I decided to give it a go a on the tuesday night before plans to go out on the saturday night. And arent I glad i planned in advance! The can is really ... ...that its colourless whilst spraying so I didnt have much of an idea where I had/ hadn't covered. It took a few hours to dry so I locked myself in my room for the rest of the night. Bearing in mind i was only testing it out, so i didnt spray my back or cover the insides of my arms very well. I was gutted that a few hours down the line there was no sign of change on my milk-white legs so I decided to call it a night. The next morning was hilarious, ...
...thing i never usually try lancome products but knew that the label promotes quality. I found the spray can very easy to use and great for the full body because unless you have two pairs of hands its impossible to get to the back, but with this airbrush affect its very easy. I found it dried really quickly and didnt leave that sticky feel on your skin the colour is a nice golden when developed, in my opinion if your new to the airbrush bottles its ...
