There has been a lot of publicity about this product and the hype certainly drew my attention to the Lancome counter. Can it really be as great as the celebs claim? Will this really be a lip gloss I can wear day to day without feeling gooey and too 'made-up'? Well, being the generous sister that I am I thought I would find out more about this 'wonder product' and look good at Christmas and buy it for my make-up fiend sister.
Much to our delight both she and I glossed up on Christmas day and were very pleased with the results. As soon as the shops opened again after Christmas I bought my very own juicy tube. I bought number 27 - colour 'Fresh' - the most natural of the shades. It looks gently peachy pink inside the tube and can be worn alone or over lip colour without adjusting the colour underneath significantly.
For £11.50 (Boots and Allders, similar prices at other cosmetic counters) you get a transparent plastic tube of 14.2grams (0.5oz). The top of the tube has a screw top which once open reveals and application panel. You apply the gloss directly from the tube which means you don't need a lip brush and don't need to get your fingers mucky. Perfect for application on the go. The applicator is slanted to give a lipstick shape and has a small hole where the gloss glides out onto your lips. The applicator is great if you are applying onto bare lips but it can get a bit mucky if you are applying over the top of lipstick as the colour rubs onto the applicator panel.
I like the fresh scent of the gloss and it doesn't have that unusual synthetic smell/taste that other glosses have such as Elizabeth Arden 8 hr or cheaper own brand chemist versions.
Although it certainly gives an excellent reflective, lip enhancing shine unlike other products it is not too sticky. Other brands tend to leave a clumpy stringy mess behind, once the product has been on your lips for an hour or two but this stays clean and fresh.
Eating and drinking: When drinking the gloss does leave a residue on the edge of the glass, but it is not too bad. (Related tip: Lip the edge of the glass and the moisture prevents your lipstick/gloss from sticking to the side of the glass)
You will probably need to reapply the gloss after eating a meal although it stands up fairly well if you are just eating a snack.
I find the gloss will stay on for several hours in good condition and the product does not dehydrate your lips unlike other brands. However, I wouldn't say your lips will be particulary moisturised by the gloss.
This gloss also manages stay away from my hair and does not end up getting hair glued to my lips in windy conditions which is a real bonus.
Well worth a try to those who are looking for a comfortable gloss which has excellent reflective shiny staying power without the gloop.
