"Laying a Good Foundation!"

Review of Lancome Maquimat liquid foundation

I rarely use make up or foundation nowadays, but in the winter months I do like a touch of foundation to try to even out my uneven skin tone. I spend a great deal of the year out of doors and consequently have quite an uneven skin tone and (dare I admit it) sun damaged facial skin. Coupled with some ancient scarring on my forehead, any foundation has its work cut out with my skin.

I am on a tight budget at the moment so when a good friend handed me a tube of this foundation and asked if I could use it as it didn't suit her complexion, I was delighted to take ownership of a foundation from a better quality range than I'd usually buy for myself.

**The Foundation**

Presented in a flattish tube containing 30ml of make up, Lancome Maquimat certainly looks a premium product. The tube is beige in colour and has a black screw off lid embellished with a gold tag bearing the Lancome name. The product name, the Lancome trademark rose and all information appear in a gold font on the front of the container, ingredients, colour number and name (01 Beige Albatre in my case) and company information are to be found on the rear. The product should be used within 12 months of opening.
The packaging looks classy and you can tell that it is from a premium range.

The foundation promises to be a lightweight formula which delivers a long lasting matt finish. The make up is also supposed to help defend your skin from environmental damage as it contains sunscreens.

**In Use**

The foundation blends very well and I find it easy to apply. I tend to use a small cosmetic sponge to apply foundation and finish it off with a light powder. The make up has a vaguely floral scent, which slightly worried me as I do not like the idea of scented products on my face. I had no adverse reaction, but feel the scent is worth mentioning.

Lancome Maquimat foundation is a little thicker in consistency than other I have tried, but it blended in very well. The coverage is good and it lasts fairly well. My slight scars on my forehead are well camouflaged and my skin tone is evened out beautifully with this foundation. I find that it sits quite well on the skin and doesn't feel heavy, the foundation seems to let the skin breathe too so there is none of the pore clogging feeling that can occur, unlike some of the cheaper brands I have used. Removal is easy too, whether I use my normal facial wash or a wipe, the foundation whisks away in a trice.

Lancome Maquimat come in a range of five shades and the price on the Lancome website is a jaw dropping £25.50 for the 30ml tube. I have to say that I would never in a million years spend this much on one item of make up and would always shop around for a better deal.

**My Thoughts and Conclusion**

Make up is not a field that I am in anyway an expert in, however my niece is a qualified make up artist and she tells me that for everyday wear, foundation should match your natural skin tone as closely as possible, so that it blends in well and becomes virtually invisible. The idea being that your foundation provides a base, rather than a mask... Clare’s words not mine!!
She also advised me that you should always opt for a shade that is slightly lighter than your skin tone.

With this advice in mind I would have to say that although it worked for me, I suggest if you are interested in trying this foundation, you head to a Lancome counter and try a tester before parting with your cash!

This foundation may not have suited my friend and as she only used it the once, I got a very worthwhile freebie as this foundation suits my skin beautifully. It is marketed as being suitable for normal or combination skins. I do not have any particular skin issues other than dryness, but this foundation certainly seems to suit me.

I would recommend Lancome Maquimat foundation, although must admit I will not be buying it for myself as the price is simply too high for me to justify the expense. As a 'cast-off' it was a great treat, so I had best use it sparingly, as I'm unlikely to be in position to replace it!

I have rated this 4*, due to the cost.

Thank you for reading.
