I first treated myself to a Lancome product about 10 years ago when someone gave me a big fat Boots gift voucher and I felt like being extravagant. Until then I'd assumed that all you paid for with expensive products was the packaging. How wrong I was.
Lancome are a French company originating from Paris but they're now a global concern and the products are widely available throughout the UK. They can be found in most Boots stores, some independent chemists and every single department store I've ever been into.
The products:
Lancome do the whole range of skincare, make up, sun products and fragrance. I'll just pick out a couple of my favourites and tell you why they're so exquisite.
First, Lancome Eternicils, their waterproof mascara. Price: £15. This is the best mascara I've ever tried, including non-waterproofs. It comes in black, brown and blue. It's in a lovely chunky tube with a marbled effect and looks gorgeous. It's performance is nothing short of fantastic. It has a longish thickish brush and glides on easily without clogging. The result is a lengthening and thickening effect after only one coat. And it stays put through rainstorms, swimming and all manner of tearful hysterics. It doesn't run or smudge, but despite this it can easily be removed with face wash and water - or if you prefer to use a special eye make-up remover, we'll move on to fave product 2.
Bi-Facil eye make-up remover. Price: £12. This stuff is in two shades of blue and you have to shake it well before use so that they mix together completely. Then you only need a tiny bit on a cotton wool pad to wipe away all traces of mascara, eyeliner and shadow. Best of all, it is not greasy in the slightest, and it in fact leaves your eyes so matte that you could immediately re-apply make up. It's also suitable for sensitive eyes and doesn't sting at all.
Lastly, my all time favourite moisturiser. Hydra Zen. Price: £25 for tube of lotion or pot of cream. Hydra Zen smells of roses and is a joy to sniff (I like to put a little extra under the nostril area to smell all day! According to armoatherapists, the rose smell makes you feel joyous - can't say I've been overwhelmed to this extent but it is very pleasant indeed). Anyway, the lotion and cream both slide onto the skin easily and sink in very fast, leaving the skin with a velvety texture and no greasy residue. The moisturised feeling lasts all day even if you've just used a little bit. One fault - it doesn't contain an SPF, but for that smell and velvety feel I couldn't give a monkeys.
Yes, Lancome products are expensive, but for my money they're well worth it. They are the best performing most consistent products I've come across and they are also long lasting so don't work out quite so expensive in the long run. Try one of their lipsticks and compare it with a cheaper brand and you'll see what I mean.
Go on, treat yourself. Or alternatively, visit lancome.com and have a go at their regular competitions to win lots of luverly products.
Whenever I get some money (birthdays, christmas) I love to buy Lancome stuff - amazing quality, lovely packaging. My latest is Miracle, the perfume, and a kohl eyeliner, which I've lost!
