I was one of the first people in the world to try out this range of skincare (really!) and have had the chance to test it over a relatively long period of time. Lancome LCM was launched as a range consisting 6 products here in Singapore in October 2002 and then subsequently in the rest of Asia. The reason why I said I was one of the first was because I made a beeline for the distribution counter for a free "discovery kit" (containing 50ml Foaming Cleansing Gel and 50ml Beautifying Skin Conditioner)in the morning of the first day of its launch...I even skipped a morning of lectures just for it! The reason I was so enthusiastic was that the LCM range seemed to be what I have been looking for. But is it all that it seems?

I received the free discovery kit containing the Foaming Gel Cleanser for Combination and Oily Skins and the Beautifying Skin Conditioner for Combination Skin. I chose that set because I have skin that is perpetually greasy in the T-zone (which 20 year-old hasn't?) and comfortable on the cheeks though it is prone to dryness once in a while.

I'm very particuliar with my skin care products actually. The cleanser and moisturizer must come from the same brand, come from a reputable brand, look good, and of they can't be fragrance-free, they must at least smell good. Lancome LCM, I knew, would fit this bill.

Foaming Gel Cleanser-

Lancome LCM makes two variants- one for combination/oily skins and another for normal/dry skins. I'm reviewing the first one.
It claims to be a "transparent gel that turns to a light-as-air mousse as you massage away impurities and excess sebum without dryness or irritation."
The cleanser smells great- fruity, and even slightly citrusy. it turns into a mousse alright, but it is not as foam-my as I like. One of the things I didn't like about this is that the dispenser tends to dispense too much and the product spurts out everywhere but onto your palm if you are not careful. When the Lancome girls were demonstrating, they had the same problem so there's a warning.
The cleanser is certainly not drying. In fact, it doesn't have any oil-controlling properties. Prior to this, I have used with Lancome Mousse Controle with much success but this LCM cleanser seems to be much milder.
The thing that kept me away from this cleanser after the trial size bottle is gone is the fact that it stings my skin...yes, as much as I hate to say this, it produces a burning sensation the moment it is in contact with my face. Now I will not go as far as to say that I have sensitive skin. This is the only product that has ever done that to my face. I was rather disappointed after the first try. Thank goodness there was no redness after I rinsed off the cleanser. I tried it again before bedtime, and it produced the same kind of sensation, just not as severe as the first time. Used it again the next morning and the burning sensation was almost gone. For the next few days, I used another cleanser and the next time I used this LCM cleanser, the stinging sensation was back! At this time, I swore never to use this product again. Too bad. I really wanted to like this.

Beautifying Skin Conditioner-
Now this is something I really like. Lancome advertises this a balancing toner-cum-moisturiser for young skins (particularly those from 15 to 24). Apparently young skins get imbalanced easily and this "skin balancer" is supposed to help in the balancing act.
There are four textures for the four products in the line-up. The Conditioner for oily skin is a mint-green, lightweight gel with the scent of Rose Amandine (I do not know what that is, actually). The Conditioner for combination skin is a very pretty lilac "texturised water" with a scent of Blue Rose. The one for normal skin is a lovely peach colour, with a Green Rose scent (this smells the best, in my opinion) in a gel emulsion texture, while the one for dry skin is a pastel pink-coloured milky fresh lotion that comes in a scent of Rose Eveil. One can clearly see the appeal of these products. Lancome fans, especially, will like the fact that the focus on the Rose as a symbol of beauty is a prominent feature in the products.
The Conditioners contain vitamins (E and B5)for protection against external pollutants, minerals (magnesium, zinc and copper) to boost radiance by activating skin cells, and rose petal extracts to refine, purify and soothe.
I actually have the Conditioners for both oily and combination skins. After I finished the 50ml Conditioner for combi skin (I took 6 months to finish that bottle), I went out and bought a full sized bottle (100ml) for oily skin.
I enjoyed both tremendously. They offer lightweight but potent moisturisation and leaves skin feeling toned and hydrated in one simple step. This is the only thing that lures me out of bed in the mornings, really.
One tip I got from the LCM website is to keep the Conditioner in the firdge for a few minutes. When it is nice and cool, massage it onto skin for instant radiance. Ahh...
But have they made a difference with my skin?
While neither of the Conditioners I have got controls oil to my satisfaction (and I don't even skin that is that oily), the pros outweigh the cons. Besides being pleasurable to use, they have successfully restored the glow to my skin within 2 weeks. I'm not exaggerating! Well, you see, because I use a mattifying cleanser, scrub, mask and foundation, skin does tend to lose its glow once in a while. When I complement my usual mattifying regime with the LCM Conditioners, skin takes on a naturally healthy look. After more than 10 months of regular use, I can say that my skin flaws are less obvious- less redness, minimised pores and a slightly finer texture.

Can I really skip the toner?
That depends on what you use your toner for. If it is for removing the last traces of make-up and cleanser, then you will want to stick to your usual toner.
If you use a toner simply because you think you have to, toss out that toner now. I read the ingredients on my two bottles and compared them with my Lancome Tonique Controle and Tonique Clarte. The first four ingredients in my Conditioners completely correspond with that in the toners.

For Lancome fans, who should make the switch from the regular range to LCM?
LCM is considerably cheaper than the usual moisturisers from Lancome. The reason is very simple. Besides appealing to the younger generation who may not have all the money to splurge on regular Lancome, LCM is more affordable because it does not contain any special powerful ingredients to target any particular skin issue, like lines or loss of firmness. Put simply, LCM is for people who do not have any particular skin issues and just want a simple, effective regime to maintain their good skin.

So are the products reccommended?
I have some reservations about the cleanser, but I really reccommend the Beautifying Skin Conditioner for it is scores high in affordability (I forsee my 100ml bottle lasting almost a year), pleasure and efficacy.

Thanks for reading and stay beautilicious!
