There don't seem to be many good reviews about Land of leather floating around here, so to balance things out a tiny bit, here's my experience of buying my sofa.
Just after Christmas we had already decided we were going to treat ourselves with a bit of money left over from our mortgage to buy a nice new suite for the lounge. As all the sales are happening we deliberately waited until after Christmas to do this. We automatically headed for the nearest DFS as they seem to be the ones that push and push their adverts through the media and always stick in my mind. Our nearest store is next to a few more furniture showrooms, one namely being Land of leather.
Up and down the shops we trailed sitting on lots and lots of sofas. We just couldn't find one we all truly liked and I'm of the opinion that if you're going to spend a large amount of money on a suite then you really have to like it.
As we walked into Land of leather there was a clever cream corner suite perfectly positioned to catch everyone's eye. It was a beauty and looked slightly different from the usual corner suites you can buy. Immediately all of us said, "that one". Well that in itself was almost decision made. After sitting, lying, bouncing on it, all three of us were in love with it.
There is a wide range of choice in Land of Leather as there is in all similar competitiors showrooms. The only difference here is obviously the leather aspect hence the name.
The price of our sofa was 999gbp down from 1499gbp. Not a bad reduction, though admittedly not as good as some of the other sale prices floating around. So where were the sales assistants when you needed one? Land of leather seriously let themselves down in this department. We couldn't get anyone's attention despite going to the service desk and asking, only to be told we would have to catch someone as they walked past us. Now I know they were busy as the sales were on, but one thing I noticed about DFS was that there were almost more staff than customers. They had the right idea to bring in surplus staff to cope with the demand, whereas it was obvious Land of leather hadn't.
Eventually after about five minutes and me stating quite loudly that if no-one attended to us shortly then they were going to lose a sale, (the sofa we were buying was placed right by the service desk) my other half made one last ditch attempt to get an advisor, and lo and behold we were told the manager would be out to see us in a couple of minutes. The manager eh? Well he obviously wasn't busy as he appeared almost straight away. I'll be fair to the guy he was a nice man and certainly knew his sales patter.
The first thing I was worried about was whether it was going to fit through my front door and into my lounge. I knew it would fit ok in the lounge but transporting things are always a worry. Immediately before I even had to ask, he told me it came apart in three sections and wouldn't be a problem. Sorted!
Down to the nitty gritty of the finance. I usually leave all that to my other half as he is so much better at talking than I am. We were fortunate enough to be paying for the sofa outright, but the guy did try to push the finance option our way. No thank you! We didn't need any added interest charges being piled on when we didn't have to use the finance option on this occasion. There was also the question of insurance. My other half works in insurance himself and knew of the company providing the package through Land of Leather and immediately he said no. However he read through the terms etc, and as he knew what he was looking for was able to see the insurance package wasn't a bad option. Considering we are having a new baby and have a cat we opted to take on the extra 200gbp for five year cover. The price was starting to go up now.
The delivery of our new suite was going to take four to six weeks we were told. This was reasonable I thought as it's a busy time of year and there was going to be demand. No problem. This is when the delivery charge sneaked its way in. It's a whopping 59gbp cash on delivery straight to the drivers! Pardon me did I hear you right? Yes you did. Admittedly there are signs placed sporadically around the store stating the delivery charge but I had neglected to see these. DFS definitely surpass Land of Leather again here as they offer free delivery to the UK mainland.
A shifty look between us and we had no choice really to agree on the charge as we all loved the sofa.
I can't comment on the finance arrangements as we didn't use them, but I know there was talk of free for a year before payment needed to be made. This seems standard with a lot of the larger companies nowadays.
We had the choice of paying with the usual card methods and we opted for switch. The advisor seemed against us paying via this method and kept asking us if we were sure. Yes we were sure thank you very much, and eventually he proceeded with the payment.
So we've forked out all that money now and have nothing to show for it for four weeks. I could hardly wait. We were advised not to get rid of our existing furniture until we had received the call giving us a delivery date.
Less than two weeks later we received the call. I was very shocked as it was quick. We were given two days notice and were told we'd receive a phone call on the morning of delivery stating a two hour time slot. Fair enough and it was my day off so I didn't have to quibble details with anyone. On the morning of delivery I got a call from the delivery driver with my two hour slot. He was more concerned about making sure I knew about the delivery charges than anything else.
I can't really fault the delivery process too much. I would have liked them to be more careful around my photo frames in the hallway as they transported the furniture through, but as soon as I had made comments their tone improved quite a lot. All furniture was assembled by the drivers and one even apologised when he got dirty water droplets on my doorframe as it was a miserable day outside. He offered to clean it, but me being the nice one said I would do it.
The one biggest downfall was the packaging. There was a lot of it and they don't take it with them. I asked them to leave it by the front door, and they certainly did that. I couldn't get down my drive until I'd cleared it. Unfortunately I can't compare this service to other companies as I have never used any.
As soon as they were finished I signed my slip of paper and handed over three crisp twenty pound notes. Was I going to get my one pound change? Was I hell! To be perfectly honest I had expected this an I was happy for them to keep the extra pound as they had offered to clean the door frame. If circumstances had been different and anyone was rude to me then I certainly would have demanded change.
Overall the whole process for me has been smooth. There are no faults with my sofa and we are all happy with it. It's a shame more people haven't had my luck however as I can only imagine what a pain it can be when your delivery doesn't arrive or something goes wrong.. Land of leather you could learn a thing or two from your competitors I feel however.
Advantages: good quality suites Disadvantages: waiting time for suites
...my leather suite from the land of leather, i just had to write a review on the level of service i recieved and the quality of the suite itself.
So it was the beginning of April and some of you may recall an advertisement being on television for the land of leather a range of special deals for one day only. So as i was interested in buying a new suite i took a drive to my nearest land of leather to view the suites which where part of this special ... ...and i didnt want the land of leather earning interest on my money and for me having no suite.
So 4 weeks passed very quickly and i am sorry to say that the suite did not arrive, then a letter came through the post apologising that my suite had not arrived but due to a high demand the suite would arrive in another 4 weeks. This is typical i thought and it was at this point i was glad i hadnt payed the suite in full.
Then about 2 weeks after the ...

...year and found one in Land of Leather in the 'Pre xmas sale'. as if.. since then I'v been told there is no such thing, they just mark the items higher hoping people will buy them during the period before, and then drop the price knowing that more people look for these items during certain times of the year... regardless of that we did find what I thought was a great suite.
We signed up for the finace option as this gave us the option to pay it off ... ...GOD am I glad Land of Horror .... oh sorry Leather are out of my hair.... or so I hope... I do expect to get a letter from the finance company in a few months telling me I still owe them the money.. so am prepared for that as well...
My recommendations for this company are AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. They all blame each other... They say they can't help it as delivery driver and service engineer are self employed so can't do anything about their behaviour... ...

...got sucked in to the Land Of Leather advertising campaign.
Anyway here goes, I went to Land Of Leather on Boxing Day - they were extremely busy (seems a lot of other people got sucked in by Land of Leather’s ‘great offers’ on the TV). Eventually me and the missus finally decided on a suite and ordered two 3 seaters and two footstools, paid a deposit of £100.00 leaving a balance of £1700.00 and was told I would receive delivery in 14 weeks.
Ok I ... ...goods in dribs and drabs. Land Of Leather (LOL) had already shown how reliable they are and I was not going to chance it again.
He then said leave it with me again and again, he never got back to me and I had to chase him. He then said the problem had been rectified and I should receive a phone call from the warehouse tomorrow. Little to my surprise no phone call was forthcoming, it was obvious the management was not concerned, by this time two ...

Upon arrival everything looked lovely, suites well laid out, visible pricing, large selection and a great smell of new leather.
So my boyfriend and I decided to have a browse with a rough idea in mind as to what we were looking for and the price we were willing to spend.
After about an hour looking and arguing, looking and arguing we ... ...so off we go to Land of Leather to pay off our balance, no problems there, well of course there wouldn't be we are giving them money and quite a lot at £2000.

at DFS now, so perhaps it wasn't that great after all! We trudged around all the usual places - DFS, Land of Leather, SCS etc. etc. and did the sit down test on just about everything. We suffered the stereotypical dodgy salesmen spiels and were just about to give up when we spotted the perfect corner sofa in the window of Harveys. At £799, the Cleo corner group leather sofa was just what we were looking for, and almost half the price of some of the other similar sofas we had seen elsewhere.
Having been through the whole sales pitch with just about every furniture salesman in Leeds, we weren't really interested in listening to another one, but it seems to be obligatory in these places unless you immediately tell them you know what you want. Even then, you may find yourself listening to them trying to sell you something you've already agreed ...
