Cracking ultra-portable laptop for under a grand
Review of Samsung Q45 LXD T7100 - Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 12.1" TFT by sadoldbag

Advantages: Fast, great spec, looks good, light
Disadvantages: None so far (only had it a week though)

...It is the second Samsung I've had and I love the layout of the keyboard etc - so much better than Dell, which are a bit functional (though good value for money). It's quite small which makes it light and easy to port about, and the screen is big enough, though obviously if you want a bigger screen there are loads out there larger. I expect the smallish screen improves the battery life. The actutal viewing on the screen is good though - it is one ... Read review

portability at a reasonable price
Review of Samsung Q45 Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66 GHz - 12.1" TFT by techno_man_37

Advantages: good price for what it can do
Disadvantages: doesnt look that good

Samsung Q45 More and more people are wanting ultra portable laptops these days, and of course they do, after all that's what laptops were made for, if laptops were made you sitting in the same place at home or work all the time then you could simply just get a desktop computer. However the only problem with making smaller laptops is that it usually limit's the amount of ram and hard drive, and even the processor you get with it, and all this limitation ...
...a faster, but bigger laptop. Which doesn't seem fair at all, however I do suppose it takes a lot of work cramming a huge normal sized laptop into a tiny thing like this. Something thought to be impossible back in the old days when the huge desktops were only around. Most ultra portable laptops do come at a price, for example the new sony vaios come in at over £1500, however after people just arnt paying these prices, the costs are now starting to ... Solid performer
Review of Samsung R70 Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8 GHz - 15.4" TFT by coops1979

Advantages: Great quality screen, strong graphics card, good processor
Disadvantages: Shiney lid can easily get scratched, only 1GB ram, No WIFI-N

...its a "feature" of all samsung laptops which had me cursing them for a few weeks but after that I found i'd gotten used to it. Performance is great, I bought mine with a memory upgrade as 1GB ram isn't really enough for what I wanted it for, once that was installed Vista flew along. One big bonus for me is the nvidia 8 series graphics card which runs pretty much all the Dx9 games I own in medium to high quality. I have infact tried the crysis demo ... Read review

Sam has finally Sung in to it's budget buyers!
Review of Samsung R20 Core Duo T2350 1.86 GHz - 14.1" TFT by mushtaqquraishi

Advantages: top finish at reasonable price
Disadvantages: poor poor battery

...350mm wide and 250mm deep. Samsung have definitely passed the first impression marks! This has a Core Duo processor (the newer ones) and a speed of 1.86GHz which is pretty normal for newer laptops today.1GB RAM isn't anything to write home about, but at least they managed to fit it in! It's just a basic laptop to fit in with the basic needs of todays users. You'll get your internet and your MS Office in at a good price and easy to use. Again, the ...
...where you get the laptop from. 120GB should though be enough room for any 'normal' users to use. The 14.1in screen means it is quite big rather than one of those rubbishy 12 inch screens which are far too small! The screen isn't as bright as my older laptops, nevertheless you shouldn't really complain too much about that especially at the price the laptop is at. As said before, if you're a normal user who needs it for basic reasons it is exceptional. ... Read review

HP DV6599 Special Edition - Good All Rounder
Review of HP Pavilion Media Center dv6599ea Special Edition Entertainment - Core 2 Duo T7300 2 GHz - 15.4" TFT by marcus997

Advantages: Features, size and design
Disadvantages: Not good enough for gaming

...me. As a fan of HP products, I chose from the DV6500 range available at the time. This laptop had every spec I required for both using as a station for university assignments, as well as home use for music, film and gaming. Firstly, the design is eye-catching. I was bored of looking at the generic black or grey and thought the white anti-scratch surface was ideal. The laptop is also quite light and the absense of a locking clip meant there was less ...
...more than my money's worth! HP also frequently offer discounts so it's always worth checking to see what deals are to be had. As well as the remote control that is stored away when not in use, another of my favourite features is the fingerprint reader. When you use the internet on a frequent basis, remembering usernames and passwords can be frustrating. For anyone who hops from website to website, I'd highly recommend this feature. Thankfully I ...
