Acer Aspire Notebook - Fab!
Advantages: Easy to use, seems virus free Disadvantages: short battery life
I LOVE my Acer Aspire One. It is sooo easy to use, and reliable. I was a little concerned about using Linux rather than Windows, but there isn't much difference. Linux uses far less memory and is intuitive to use. Memory can be upgraded easily with a micro SD card - I got an 8 Gb from Amazon for about £5 and just put in the slot on the side and Hey Presto 10Gb of memory! I found the track pad a bit small so bought a Logitech wireless mouse (ARGOS) ... ...can play games etc. Internet connectivity is fast using a router. Start up to connection takes less than a minute, main home pc (windows xp)takes at least 5 minutes to boot up including anti virus etc, no such problems with acer. It doesn't seem to need antivirus software or firewalls etc. I have been using it for 7 months with absolutely no problems at all. I don't use it for documents very often but it can save open office docs as windows if needed. ...

Be inspired by the Acer Aspire One A110
Advantages: Price, size, speed Disadvantages: None so far
...me to buy her the Acer Aspire One netbook which she would use for web browsing and writing simple documents. I was a bit sceptical of the device, after all, to me it was just a cheap laptop. But, alas, she won and off I went to Currys armed with my credit card to begrudingly buy her one.
--In the box--
The box in which the Aspire comes is very small. You'd be able to fit it under your arm and carry it no problem. As well as the netbook, there was ... ...cd which I thought was strange considering there isnt a cd driver in the netbook!!
--Initial Setup--
I must admit I found this impressive. From turning on to booting up was 15 seconds. A wizard takes you through all the standard setup questions such as region, time zones, etc. Even setting up the wireless network connection was a breeze, this was always something I was a bit wary about having had previous experience of Linux and knowing how picky ...

Perfect for web surfing, word processing and general laptop use
Advantages: Small, cheap and does everything a casual user would need Disadvantages: Nothing which is not offset by the price
I bought this product before Christmas for £186 from IT247 as my laptop had well and truely packed up. It came with Linux which I just couldn't fathom, but I installed XP and have not had any problems. It appealed to me as I was after a cheap laptop in the £200 region, for internet and word processing and not a great deal else, but didn't like the plastic-y appearance and small keyboard of the other netbooks. Also it came with a good sized hard drive ... ...while to get used to the smaller screen but compared to my old laptop (a 4 year old Toshiba satellite pro that was a nightmare from day 1!) it is highly transportable and yet still functions well beyond the spec of a 'netbook'. I had read that the battery life is short (i think less than 2 hours, please double check this though) but as I use it plugged in this doesn't affect me. I have found that it freezes occasionally (like any computer I have ...

A fairly priced laptop that does the job
Advantages: great for most applications, runs vista well Disadvantages: poor sound card, frustrating graphics card, not for games
Toshiba have really expanded their Laptop/ notebook range over the last decade. The Equium series represents an affordable option for those wanting a standard laptop without advanced hardware. The Equium range operates moderately with Vista- although slow down can often be a problem. Even with a couple of Gig of Ram and the dual core processor it can often have short moments of fatigue.
Initially problems such as these aren't noticable, but after ... ...running in the background- then you realise what a difference higher power machines make.
The on-board sound card is certainly nothing to get excited about. If you are into your music then don't expect to blast it out. I would pitch this laptop to students or general application/internet users but not gamers. The on-board graphics have limited pixel shaders which means it won't run the latest games. In fact, by running a compatability check- the ...
