Great hardware, until it goes wrong
Review of Acer Aspire 1705SMi - P4 3.06 GHz - 17" TFT by
salsacolin
Advantages: Full size comonents, Large Screen, Large HDD
Disadvantages: Acer after sales service
...replacement than a laptop.
Acer has now discontinued this model of laptop so you will only be able to purchase this second hand, now this is where the big problem occurs.
My laptop started to have issues with overheating when Hyper threading was enabled and then the DVD-RW stopped working when burning CD's. The laptop was purchased from new and was about 9 months old. I logged a call with Acer support and to start with was pleasantly surprised ... ...5 day turn around on the repair. 5 days came and went, so did a week, 2 weeks, 3weeks. I chased and got no feedback. I escalated and chased, escalated and chased. After 4 weeks the laptop was returned, it still over heated, the DVD-RW would not even read a disc, the USB ports did not work and there was a crack in the case. Eventually after a total of almost 3 months I received a replacement laptop, as they no longer made this model I received a different ...

Fastest Laptop under a grand
Review of Acer Aspire 1804WSMi - P4 3.2 GHz - 17" TFT by
drbarney
Advantages: 17inch screen. 4 USB ports, Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, IR, Great sounds
Disadvantages: Bulky power supply, glare on screen. too strong indicator lights.
I bought the Acer because it was by far the best spec for the price and glad I did. Its performance and features are excellent, including the bulit in Wireless LAN and Blue tooth. My only reservations at the time of purchase was lack of RS232 Serial ports and floppy disk, but in all the time I have had it I have not missed them, and a USB to Serial adapter is quite cheap and with all the USB memory sticks now, who needs a floppy disc drive?
The ... ...great The only negative point about the keyboard is the back slash key is in the wrong place and takes some getting use to.
It is big for a lap top because of the 17' screen and unfortunately does not come with a Laptop case and because it is big, needs a large case but this was easy enough to get (£40 from any electrical store) but the large screen is very impressive. However as with some other new laptops (a friends toshiba being one of them) ...

Great Christmas Laptop!
Review of Acer Aspire 1801WSMi - P4 515 2.93 GHz - 17" TFT by
MattMan101
Advantages: Great for gaming, video editing and general use
Disadvantages: Very short battery life and heavy to carry around
Acer Aspire 1801WSMi - Pentium 4 515 2.93Ghz
The main reason I've chosen to right this review is because, as Christmas is upon us, many people are out searching franticly for laptops. The main problem is, there are so many, how do you know which one to choose? Well in this review I intend to sum up what this laptop is good at and what it isn't so good at, so you can make a decision on whether it's for you. Not only that but hopefully some of the ... ...- There is a built in Acer Arcade that can be accessed from the front of the laptop and is great for accessing/playing music, videos, DVD's etc. The time is also displayed on the front panel which is kind of cool.
- It has built in wireless abilities as well as an infrared port
- The laptop can also be hooked up to an external monitor (leads included)

Is it for you?

Best price quality laptop
Review of Acer Aspire 7112WSMi - Celeron M 420 1.6 GHz - 17" TFT by
NITRAZ
Advantages: Turn one on and see
Disadvantages: Battery life a little low
If you want an a well above average laptop that will do pretty much all you want it to quickly, reliably and not look like a below average laptop then this is probably one to put on your shortlist if you are out shopping for one.
I have had mine for six months now and based on my purchase my daughter has also bought one for her college work amongst other applications (trust me, teenagers have applications).
The HD capacity is huge, it is fast, ...

Good value for money
Review of Acer Aspire 1703SC - P4 2.66 GHz - 17" TFT by
wilfried
Advantages: Powerful, two keyboards, full size screen
Disadvantages: heavy weight, barely portable
This is a no-nonsense notebook with a huge, bright screen and many functionalities. However, sometimes, I experience minor dysfunctions of certain keys. USB-ports are available on the back and the right side of the laptop; other ports are also available so that a impressive range of devices can be connected to the system. Owner's manual can be improved, as is the case with many new products. After all, this is excellent value for money and reliable, ...
